Violette’s French Bakery and Café in the caboose in downtown Clarkdale is a rare gem in this small, historic town. The authentic French pastries, croissants and desserts are such a treat to find “right here in river city” — not really what one would expect in a small town in Central AZ. The décor and atmosphere are charming with French café music tinkling from the sound system. The attention to the tiniest details is evident throughout your experience at Violette’s.

The croissant breakfast sandwich is a strange delight. The first bite seems like a simple breakfast sandwich, but the sharp cheese kicks in and adds some unexpected flavors. I do not typically like sharp cheese, but this sandwich is a brilliant combination of sweet, sharp, and salty. I was very pleased with the breakfast sandwich, but it wasn’t until later in the day when I ate the caramel pecan brioche pastry that I purchased as well, before I realized this is what they should be known for. The pastries are perfect, and I say this as someone who is very critical of sweets. The staff and chef are humble, the environment is quaint, and the food is one of the best bites you will get in Clarkdale. HIGHLY recommended.
