Taco Mel is by far our favorite place to get actual Mexican food in Lake Charles. It’s a no-nonsense taco joint with better prices than Taco Bell. You walk in, tell them you want sautéed onions and veggies on your taco, then make it yourself. If it doesn’t taste good, it’s probably your own fault. We love love the barbacoa tacos and quesadilla, but it’s hard to go wrong here.

Tacos! Overall not much to say, the tacos are small but you can order several from different kinda and add your own toppings for free. The restaurant was overall okay for a quick stop but nothing too fancy.

Today was my first day trying this restaurant. I am very pleased, very clean the staff is helpful but most importantly the food is amazing! It tastes just like my Mawmaw’s cooking (we are Mexican) I could eat here every day. They also allow you to put what ever topping in your taco! Very neat! Will be going back.

The food was pretty good. I had a beef fajita taco and a grilled chicken taco. I had bell peppers and onions on both of them. It wasn’t until I was already eating them that I realized that the rest of the toppings were on a separate bar. I saw a bunch of people getting to-go boxes and filling them up with the toppings and assumed that it was a salad bar. That’s on me for not asking but the staff didn’t offer to let me know, either. I’ll go back and give them another try. I’m sure that it will be more flavorful with added toppings.

10/5 Stars best street tacos around! I’m a bit taco snobby being raised in SoCal and Las Vegas….that TexMex BS they peddle in the area normally turns me completely off…. My only gripe is that they don’t offer more items on the menu that they already have the ingredients for…. Like Nacho’s or a burrito. There *HOT* Sauce on the topping bar is a taste of heaven! Full of flavor and fire!

This place is the real deal. This is not Taco Bell. Real and authentic food. Very polite and friendly. My first time going and it will definitely not be my last. Food was so good I refused to share. Next time my family will listen and get while the getting is good when I offer. Lol!
