The service was great, friendly and attentive, and the food was very good. But on discussing with my husband, we’ve had better for the prices. Not complaining though, nothing was wrong with our orders. I first ordered salmon but they were out of salmon, so I chose old bay shrimp with Brussels sprouts as a side. Nice salad of mixed greens and vegetables, the shrimp were large, more than I could eat. The rib eye was very good, I’m told, but after ordering We were told that market price would be $5 more than menu price. I think it was $27 or $28 (which is why I say it was good, but wasn’t *that* special). We recommend, but will probably only splurge here once (we don’t come to Hays often, so we like to try a different restaurant each time).

My wife and I tried to stop in on the way to Denver from KC on Monday. They were closed. We stopped on our way back to KC on Wednesday. Decor is OK. Waitress sat us. The first bad sign was when my arms stuck to the table from being stickey. The waitress came by about 15 minutes after we were seated. She apologized for the wait. She asked if we wanted anything to drink

Rough place to eat on a busy Saturday: overcooked vegetables, rotted salad, rubbery macaroni and poor meat quality (a rotting bout of stomach pains occurred after). I appreciate the staff and their kindness, but they cannot make up for a bad menu.

No one in the party got steak so keep that in mind. After careful consideration I believe the value and quality of the food were just enough to earn a five star. The rolls, soup, and salad were a solid start to the meal. The entrees were filling and had good flavor but did not stand out in any way. That said, each entree was only about $14 so I really am not sure where you can eat this much above average food at that price.

This place people are amazing,we stop our truck next to them and it was so cold We were tired and hungry They were closing however they let us to come in and enjoy. Food was delicious, the little bowl of soup My K meat great, and our server super warm. Thanks Last: super affordable.

We have eaten here twice during our travels in Kansas. The first time the food and service were excellent. The food was seasoned great. The fried mushrooms are the best. We came back a second time a few months later. The service was still excellent, but the food was not seasoned as well as the first time we visited. The fried mushrooms were still tasty. We will stop here again if in the area, at least for the mushrooms, and to try something new on the menu.

Do you want good food in Hays Kansas? Well come here and you’ll find everything on the menu is something you’ll enjoy. Doesn’t matter if you live here or you’re just passing through. The food is good quality food for a good price. It’s one of the few places I’ve been to after the inflation crisis that’s charging around $2 for beverages rather than $3-$3.5. The pork chops are a good value, and they’re boneless, so they’re easy to eat. Does that not tickle your fancy? Well, ironically, they have some great chicken fettuccine. I know it’s weird for a steak house to make good Italian dishes, but that’s my point. Anything on the menu is good. The staff is also very friendly. I enjoyed myself so much that I came back three times when I was passing through for work, and I don’t live nearby, so drop on by. I promise you won’t regret it. I certainly didn’t.

Stopped by today during lunch time. Service was great, the ladies were attentive but not overwhelming. Food was pretty good. Ordered a ribeye medium rare, steak came out more like medium and extremely hot, flavour was good. But I’m not sure how it was cooked as it was hotter than any steak I’ve ever got, but had no grill marks?

Food was great. Server was attentive and polite. We were seated after a slight delay. Restaurant has a western motif and was conveniently located. We walked but there appeared to be ample parking. Highly recommend the pork chops which were among the best I’ve ever eaten. Hickocks will be our “go to” restaurant stop in Hays, KS.
