Dal makhani is supposed to be a rich infusion of flavors, either yellow or reddish, and the spices and aromatics should all be part of the flavor. Their dal makhani is a sad concoction of ghee and cream, with trace amounts of tomatoes and a piece of clove. There are different variants of dal makhani, but this pale one should not be one of them.

As others mention, this place is a bit rough around the edges. However, the food is very good and reasonably priced. I will definitely be going back.

Gurung restaurant has been my go to place every time I visit Vermont. The food is delicious. Definitely try their lollipop chicken, momos, chowmein, sukuti. You won’t go wrong ordering anything off of menu, honestly. Will visit many more times

Great food at good prices. It’s also fun – you can play western pool or an Indian pool game. The place isn’t fancy so if you’re snobby about that kind of stuff just order takeaway.

This place is a local gem! We’ve gotten takeout here on countless occasions and we’re always happy and stuffed, mostly because it’s so tasty and we can’t stop eating… We love spicy food and the jhol Momo’s are AMAZING. So spicy and flavorful. We also recommend the chili Momo’s, lamb vindaloo, goat curry, bhindi masala and saag paneer. The chicken Tikka and korma are on the sweeter side compared to how Indian restaurants make it but I’m guessing that’s more the Nepalese style so keep that in mind.

Tried it twice just to be sure before I wrote this. Just a couple of heads up and some feedback:

The food was not up to our expectations. The goat curry was so overdone it was so hard as a rock. Not the advertised version on the website. Even the pork in the rice was way over cooked. Seems as though the food cooked at this place has been previously frozen. Or they don’t know how to cook properly. Sad that we spent over $90 just to try a different local restaurant here in burlington. My husband is now trying to salvage the food by sous vide. Not optimistic but hoping we can salvage some of it. We have had many curry’s in different countries and it just melts in your mouth…this was 100% a disappointment.

Gurung Restaurant and Bar provides one of the best foods in town as they promised. Employees are very warm and respective. For fun, there’s a great 8 ball pool table and Karaoke machine. If request, they will play the songs you enjoy. I’d highly recommend to try this place if you love delicious spicy asian cuisine.

Family Gurung offers a wide range of Asian American dishes, but also some of the more unique Himalayan-style meals that can be hard to find. In my opinion, their food is a step above other Himilayan restaurants in the area. Their momos (veg, chicken, beef) are some of the best among this increasingly-popular food in Burlington.

One of my favorite nepali restaurants, especially for the momos. The momo sauce is on point, the chili momos are GREAT, and jhol momos are a nice variety as well. The curries and other dishes are good, nothing too crazy to stand out from other nepali/indian restaurants, but I will continue to come back for the momos 🙂
