Wholesome Weirdos
Not knowing what a “loose meat sandwich” is, we were still wanting to try this Sioux City staple that has that wonderfully authentic old school vibe and is ALWAYS busy. I would describe it as an un-patty hamburger, complete with a pickle and mustard. Onion chips are tender but crisp and mellow in flavor (and I’m not an onion ring fan). How’d they get the name? You’ll know after one bite when you say aloud – “that’s tasty”.

Definitely something different. This is a great place for loose meat sandwich, onion chips are amazing you can drive thru or walk up fast service they definitely know what they are doing especially since they have been open since 1955 I’ll definitely be back

People are awesome, food is local gooooood. It’s mustard and pickle with whatever meat/fish but I’m telling you, the bread is what makes these sandwiches. We got TWO of their shirts because they looked cool and the quality was great. Skip the chain, make a memory with these nice people.

Wow! Fast, friendly service and the food was delish! We loved the Tastee, onion chips and the fries. Reasonably priced and yummy. A must stop if you’re passing through! Highly recommend!

The sandwiches are now half the size of a McDonalds cheese burger and cost 3 times as much. I don’t mind the higher price if you don’t shrink the portion too. the price is no longer worth the portion. 6 taverns the size of a small slider and dip cost me 33 dollars.

Portions sizes were ok for the price. We ate at the picnic table but couldn’t imagine eating the ground beef sandwich in the car. Onion chips were nice, wish the dipping sauce had some more heat or spice to it. Shakes were good. Glad we stopped and tried it (traveling through) but probably won’t put it on our must stop travel list.

It is one of Sioux City known local restaurants and is an eye catcher on Gordon Ave. It has a quick take out service, which is fast. The service is fast and friendly. As for the food, the Tastee is a great tavern for a decent price and is one of many restaurants that gives Sioux City the place to get taverns. A Sioux City favorite has to be the onion chips. When they are cooked right, they are one of the best foods you can get in town, but sometimes they will overfry them and cause them to get very hard. Their fries are on the lower side, but they are fine.

I’m 60s used to go as child. Loved the onion chips but there changed. Cornmeal coated. Did not like. Takes away the taste hard to chew with dentures. Disappointed

Food was delicious, and this time it was so busy we had to wait for about ten minutes to get up to the window, but it was worth it.
