Born into an Italian family in Roseland, a South Chicago Italian neighborhood, Tom Gelsosomo has always loved great Italian food. As an aspiring young entrepreneur who had worked hard in restaurants in the late 1970’s, Tom wanted to share his love for Italian food with people through his Gelsosomo’s (Jel-sah-so-mos) Pizzeria restaurant concept. Tom decided to open his first restaurant in Portage, Indiana in 1979. We take great pride in offering the highest quality and service ever offered anywhere. Only natural ingredients are used in our products, along with the highest quality control standards. Our service expectations are high, but without these standards and loyal patrons, our pizzerias would not be as successful as they are today.

The garlic parm wings were so delicious! Pizza sauce was a little too sweet, and they cooked the pizza too much. I like my cheese gooey more than crisp, but maybe that’s a matter of taste. The atmosphere is great, classic old school pizza joint.

Well I showed up and I was Going Out On a date with one of my best friends and I had a $120 on me. And and it fell oou on the floor somehow. Dave the manager found it on the floor. He came over to the table and he asked me, did you lose this? I have never met a man so honest. I just hope you appreciate him because he is good for your customers. Wanted to love it! Just moved and Being from Chicago looking for a pizza joint. Needs better service and could use a facelift. Pizza needed more sauce and cooked more. Could of been better. Would go back to give it another shot since it’s near my house…2.5 stars ⭐️

I eat here every so often, visits are usually good. The hot n spicy pizza is great, but this time around I ordered the fried ravioli as well. The dish was $10, and the carryout box had 6 small raviolis in it. Just don’t feel this even nearly reflects the price, I would not recommend this item.

The delivery driver and brownie bites are 5 star worthy. The meatball was good but could hardly enjoy because the Alfredo sauce was so terrible. No flavor at all. The Italian dressing for the salad was just oil and dry herbs, no vinegar. And the bread isn’t toasted or anything. Huge bummer.

Always a clean , fun , family atmosphere. The Buffalo Chicken pizza was outstanding and , typically I wasn’t a big fan. Gell sure changed that. Amazing place to have a Childs Birthday. They have a magician and balloon animals made in front of you! Very cool and the kids love it. Also adult beverages. Great staff , clean , fast , competent service. I would recommend Gelsosomo’s Pizzeria to all my family and friends !

Just moved to the area a few years ago from the east coast, living outside of Chicago “the land of pizza” it is so refreshing to find a pizza that reminds me of the east coast south Jersey boardwalk pizza!!
