Delicious food made by family-run restaurant! The server, who was very nice and accommodating to us, was apparently the son of family and also creative director for the space! (Made the furniture and interior design and art himself).

Stopped by on a weekday night and enjoyed this authentic and tasty Hunan experiences in SF. We ordered a few specials (smoked pork, eggplants and green beans, and the money pop eggs). The flavors were deep, clean, nostalgic and comforting. I especially enjoyed the eggplant – they had a smoky, savory flavor and were not oily and mushy, which can sometimes be found at some other places. The green beans, with their slight crunch paired well. Green tea was served in traditional teapots – the tea was light with a floral note, balancing the defined flavors of the food. Downstairs has a modern vibe with bright colored lights while the upstairs offers a more minimalist vibe (where we dined). The upstairs space is elegant and was bathed in the soft tunes of classical music which, along with the green tea, is a great way to cap the end of a day.

A family-owned and run authentic Hunan restaurant. There’s the grab-and-go lunch area on the 1st floor, and an more secluded dinner dining area on the 2nd floor. Quiet atmosphere which is great for conversations. Service was by the family members and they were the some of the most hospitable I’ve encountered in a restaurant. I went with friends for dinner, and dishes were a little slow to come out, though it’s likely since we did have fun with ordering some custom dishes while chatting with the owner on Hunan cuisine. It reminded me much more of dining with relatives than dining at restaurant.

I was looking for dumplings and came here because they looked so delicious in the pictures. Was not disappointed. The upstairs dining area is very nice. The service is fast and very friendly. They speak Mandarin and English.

I was having dinner with my friends here on Friday. The food were so hunan authentic and delicious. The homemade bacon and the pepper pork belly were such as a rice killer. If you want to try authentic and amazing hunan food, here is the place that you must come in Chinatown in San Francisco.

Amazing food just like what I ate in Hunan province, China when I spent a few months there years ago! They had a dish that I have never found at any other Chinese restaurant in the US, Hunan pork belly prepared just like I remember. Compliments to the chef! We went here after a long day touring San Francisco and everyone in my family ate something they loved, including my kids. That’s rare! The service was great. It’s a family business and they were friendly and attentive. Clean and recently remodeled inside. I’m writing this review because it was amazing and I want to remember to come back next time I’m in San Francisco.

Sohunan is a phenomenal restaurant worth eating at. It was a clean, updated and modern interior with a good atmosphere. The waiter was friendly and had a great attitude. Our food was reasonably priced and delicious. We ordered 4 different entrees and each was fresh, had deep flavor, and a generous portion. I’d eat here again without hesitation. I highly recommend the dumplings and smoked pork belly.

Came here for dinner while visiting the City and staying at a nearby hotel. You can’t easily tell from the outside, but in addition to the small downstairs area, they have a spacious, beautifully-remodeled dining room upstairs. It has a modern, clean feel, and beautiful classical music was playing in the background.
