Upon entering, we were asked if we wanted a breakfast or a lunch menu. Breakfast appears to be very popular here, but we were ready for brisket. Husband ordered The Poppin, which was very good but not as spicy as it sounded on paper, with sweet potato fries. I ordered a half pound brisket (which, to me, was. a. lot.) with mac and cheese which added $1 and babbage which is cooked cabbage with bacon. The brisket was excellent with the BBQ sauce I was given. The mac and cheese was real cheese, not creamy cheese, and cavatappi pasta which was the real surprise. (Hope this is correct. I had to research this as I’ve never been given this pasta in mac and cheese and it is known by other names.) It was delicious. The babbage is cooked cabbage with a lot of meat included. I like coleslaw over brisket but decided to give this a try and I liked it. The restaurant is one large open room, a little surprising at first with the possibility of being loud/noisy, but it wasn’t. We had a pleasant dining experience with a knowledgeable waitress. There’s a second room farther back that we didn’t go into but at least one party was seated there. I shared some of my meal, mostly the meat, with husband. We both left full and satisfied.

My husband and I are traveling through Idaho. On our way to Tennessee. We’ve tried several restaurant/diners in the area and finally found one that did NOT disappoint. I would definitely recommend Savory Layne Steakhouse. I got the ribeye and loaded potato came with a salad. Perfectly cooked. My husband got the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and green beans. He made the statement “ the green beans taste just like grandma’s.“ The wait staff was very attentive and friendly. The food was delicious. Would’ve given them five stars across the board, except for one thing… Not sure what they could’ve done and just like every other place we’ve been to seems to have a fly problem. One little fly landing on my food can quickly ruined a perfect evening. Still, service was exceptional, and food was phenomenal!

Great food and great amount of food for price. Very friendly staff and very accommodating. I’ve been there twice and past week and have always had to go boxes . They have huge portions for the price. Totally worth it.

Foos was awesome and fast friendly service. Not over priced. Atmosphere not over done but great and room between tables for guest. I recommend the rib eye with loaded bake potato. And the samples platter for the group of at least 4. Was awesome . Food was great and service was awesome

This place was great! The Poppers and the Babbage were fantastic and the portions of the main dish was generous. We had the Brisket, The “Poppin” sandwich and a Burger. All very delicious. Next time I’m headed through this area, I would skip stopping in Boise to eat just to come here! Thanks y’all!

Service has always been decent and the atmosphere is okay as well. However the price of the steak is too much for what is served I was told that the Steak was prime grade and it is far from prime. I have tried every Steak on the menu before commenting on anything. Every Steak I have been served from this restaurant has been less than or equal to choice grade (full of tendons and not tender at all), even the Filet which should be the most tender cut had several pieces I could not chew. The T-bone Steak I was served tonight was definitely not a T-bone and if it was it was the worst cut I’ve ever seen in my life. On the other hand the sides are good and the sear on the steaks are proper. Very disappointing for a steakhouse when I can order a better Steak for $20 at smokey mountain pizza.
