Originally opened as Toluca Mexican restaurant in 1993, we were asked to change our name for trademark purposes. In 2016, we changed our name to Mezontle. We wanted our logo to represent more than our family’s Jalisco roots, but also our customers who have made us who we are. Our customers have helped us stay in business through the hardest times in this economy and we want to thank you for that. The Mezontle is the heart of the agave plant. What the Mezontle is to the agave plant, our customers are to us. Thank you for being the heart of our business since 1993.

I had the carnitas plate. It was passable. What made it good was the flavor. The guacamole on the side left a lot to be desired as it had no seasoning. It was fresh though. The salsa, like the guacamole was too tame. It had no heat and just tasted like fresh tomatoes. The standout was their amazing homemade Chipotle ranch. It had a great kick to it and it made my salad irresistible. They also had a house hot sauce that was very fiery and good to eat. They serve alcohol too so definitely a spot to grab some good food and unwind.

I ordered the Salsa Verde Pork Wet Burrito, drowned in more Salsa Verde. Spicy, flavorful, and delicious. While prices are a bit higher, the quality is reflective as well.

Great little place. Good food, really nice family who runs it. Go on Tuesday for $2 tacos, margaritas and beers. The veggie tacos and meat substitute tacos are good for vegetarians; the fish tacos and shrimp tacos are quite good (especially for $2). The kids really like the carnitas and carne asada tacos (not too spicy for them).
