The food here was not the issue. The place was a little dirty, no one to clean off tables after people leave. Trays and baskets and cups on many tables. Large digital menu in the dining area , not the same choices at the register. So it took us a few to see if we wanted any thing that was not on big menu. This smaller menu had a lot more choices. The cashier was not happy with the wait time even though our group of 6 were the only ones in the restaurant. Food took a awhile to get, some came out wrong. The food itself was good, I personally thought the chili was watered down, it was a little runny. They had no napkins in the dispensers , no silverware in the baskets. Not plastic ware , real silverware.

I can tell why the place has been around so long… its classic and simple. The menu isnt over complicated, the serve beer, and the chili was a good one for coneys! The fries, classic chili cheese dog, and even the shakes were simple but good for the price. Old school makes. Only complaints? The location seemed kinda dead, could just be the day… but everyone was moving at a snails pace and had a case of the Monday’s. There were tables that needed to be bussed and the girl who took my menu didn’t know it very well and I had to have her ask to be sure. I would say take advantage of the specials when they have them!

I usually come to this location on special occasions since we don’t have a JCI near me and the food was never a problem until today. I got 2 kids meal burger meals & the meat patty was way smaller then the bun & dry(slider size meat patty)fries were undercooked. Then the cheese burger meal was a nightmare, first of all the meat tasted old & flavorless & it literally had 2 strips of lettuce as if someone got a small slice of lettuce and cut in 2 small strips, the tomatoe yes small slice in the burger was nasty as if it was days old and yes the fries were soft too. I’ve always loved JCI since I was much younger. Today I visited the restaurant on Spencer & Burke and it just didn’t hold up to the test on time. The hot dog was not hot, nor was the chili. The bun was tough and the cheese was sparse. All the way around I only gave it three out of five stars. It just wasn’t easy ordering at the drive through either.

I have been coming to James Coney Island since I was a kid and over the years I have started going less and less because the prices keep going up and the quantity and quality keep going down. I stopped by tonight for a few hotdogs and this plain coney with cheese is 2.39 plus tax. They must be having a cheese shortage since this is what I received.
