Amazing little shop! Stopped for lunch with my family after taking my dad to some doctors appointments in Des Moines. I had the #1 with Italian dressing. My husband had the meatball sub. Both of us agree it’s the best sandwich we’ve ever had!

Overall this is a solid little sandwich shop. The sandwiches have always been nice and toasted, sides are standard. Seating is quaint and is a nice break from the corporate setting. Staff was quick and professional. Only knock is that prices skew high it seems. A couple of the combos seem to be around 50 cents of savings, I suggest just a sandwich and a side if you desire. It’s a nice change from the usual but wouldn’t be my every day spot.

It is a nice quaint sandwich and salad shop with good ingredients. My only concern is the nostalgia I feel for the roast beef sandwich back in the late nineties at the (Now Closed) Ankeny Pickerman’s. The roast beef was roasted and the special sauce had an ample amount of horseradish and melted cheese. It can be amazing with a cup of soup.

Hours are listed wrong. Closed at 2 not 3. Also said they offer chicken noodles but they didn’t when we stopped in. Pulled up right when they were about to lock the doors but he let us come in and order.

i LOVE Pickerman’s. I frequent their Meatball sub but I’ve noticed it tastes differently lately. I’m wondering if they changed their sauce or meatballs? If so, I’m a little bummed because it hasn’t been AS good as usual.

Finally , a good meatball sub. Every time I order a meatball sub at a restaurant I usually get a combination of too much bread, sogginess, and meatballs that taste like they have been frozen for 8 years. Pickerman’s came through with perfectly toasted bread, a great red sauce, and tender/ flavorful meatballs. Every time I go in to this place the people working there are nice. Good work!
