We were in on a Sunday, around 7pm. Our waitress was serving us (a table of 3) and a table of 8, which had been seated prior to us. After receiving the menu and our drinks, we were left to look at the menus for two more drink fill ups while the table of 8 was served their meal. Finally, we placed our order. After a couple more drink refills, no, we weren’t that thirsty, our meals arrived. Upon cutting into our medium rare steaks, which were obviously overcooked, it was discovered on first taste they had also forgotten to season them! The steaks tasted like they had been dropped on the floor, rinsed off and then thrown back on the grill and charred. One of three was cooked as ordered. We flagged down the waitress and told her, she did offer to have it remade. It had taken so long to make the first time, we both declined the offer. The bill did reflect the steaks being removed.

Good service, good food, and in the middle of the day, the atmosphere was great since we only had 2 other people in the whole restaurant with us.

I was surprised to find the most authentic Southwest cuisine this far north. An excellent steakhouse as well with pricing on aged steaks that you can not beat. If you’re in the Keweenaw, you should consider Carmelitas.

Food is always fresh and tasty. Try the enchilada casserole! Inside is nicely decorated, but on nice days the patio is the place to be. Friendly, efficient service. The owner is usually on site, making sure everything is running smoothly. My only negative is $6.00 for a pint of beer, but then again, I’m old enough to remember 25¢ beers .

I was really impressed with the food and service at Carmelita’s. I tried both the chicken fajita and quesadilla, and I was happily surprised with it all. It’s kind of a Tex-Mex deal, but I like it better than other restaurants I’ve been to that lean more on the side of too spicy or overwhelmingly flavorful. It’s like a Midwest take on Mexican food, and it’s phenomenal. They have endless guacamole, salsa, and chips, and it was totally awesome (I ate a lot of guacamole). All around 10/10 would recommend!

So, first off staff is always fun to chat with. 2nd the selection is awesome with good Mexican, but also steaks and burgers for the non Mexican food lovers. Prices are decent and food has been great every visit we’ve have had over the years.

Offered an outside seating area where we could have our dog with us. Server was intent on ensuring we enjoyed our meal, a bit forgetful on a few things but so willing to make it perfect it was worth the wait . The steak was cooked to perfection but a bit tough on the edges. The seafood enchiladas were full of flavor and more than I could eat. Thimbleberry Margaritas were a fabulous option. We will be stopping again when in the area!

I know it is very hard to get employees, so I am not taking that into account for the slow service as it appeared our server, Ben, was doing a one-man-show. The food, on the other hand, was disappointing. I had a spicy pulled pork burrito that was spicy, but there were hunks of overdone, to the point of being crunchy, pork. Not very pleasant to eat.

My son and I both had the tacos with regular taco meat. I wasn’t impressed. Corn tortillas fell right apart and the meat was very bland. The chips also tasted like they were store bought and straight out of a bag. The beans and rice were about what you’d expect in a cafeteria.

Prices on their websites are outdated and they haven’t bothered changing in more than a year. The total ended up being 20-25% more than the prices online. Waitress spilled a beer on us and didn’t feel like working I guess. Not her fault. But the service was meh. Food is half decent. Hit or miss. There’s some really good dishes.
