Hillside Restaurant & Bar is a local, family-owned and operated brick oven pizza restaurant, bar and café. Our specialty is pizza, but we will also be serving specialty sandwiches and other dishes as well. In our bar, Zelda’s, we serve beer, wine and specialty mixed drinks. Join us for a pastry and espresso coffee in our Hillside Café for breakfast or a midafternoon snack.

Small town restaurant with a big heart that aims to please. Family-owned and operated in the middle of downtown Chester. The family members are typically working during the few days it’s open but they have a decent sized menu with everything from salads & sandwiches to pizza and dessert. They have appetizers too! Next door is the connected bar called Zeldas. The restaurant is a sprawling space in what used to be the town’s five and dime store more than 30 years ago. You can still see a relic of the sign at the entrance from the street. The staff is nice and wants you to feel welcomed and feel like “everybody knows your name”. There is a set of twins that often work the weekends. They are busy but will help however they can during your visit. We had the 10” & 16” pizzas, spiffy ceasar salad, and a few cocktails. You can eat on the Zelda or main restaurant side. Our food came out piping hot and fresh. It wasn’t bad at all. They even offer baked goods made by one of the twin sisters! So stop by, say ‘hi’, and have a bite!

Super excited about something new in town. The service was good, restaurant is nice and clean, but the pizza was lacking. The crust is a little thick for a brick oven, which is usually expected to be more thin and crispy. The toppings were all great. The red sauce was a little sweet for my liking, but the white garlic sauce was perfect. The side salad was great though! Filled with fresh toppings. Will definitely be back to try something else, sandwiches look great, with lots of options for toppings.

First time going. We ordered buffalo chicken dip, pimiento cheese dip and onions rings for appetizers. Dips were good. Onion rings were bland. Daughter, myself and son in law ordered pizzas. They were ok could use a little more garlic in sauce. Son in law wasn’t happy cause his pizza had prosciutto that was over cooked which made it real chewy. We asked to be seated in the back by oven station. Several employees were gathered around chatting. One guy was making pizza dough without gloves. Everyone else working in pizza making area was wearing gloves.

I’m posting this becuz I’m finally able to say there’s a local restaurant with real pizza and fresh ingredients!! Look at this pepperoni, mushroom and jalapeño pizza!! And it was piping hot and so so good. Btw, this is LITE cheese! And wait for it…lots of vegan/vegetarian options too! Wow, how considerate. About time, Chester! ❤️

Had the Main Drag and the Gold Digger app and holy moly it was amazing. The pizza was cooked perfectly. Much improved from the first weekend they opened. Great atmosphere, great wait staff, great experience!

Hillside has become my regular Saturday morning stop. The cafe has wonderful coffee drinks (this week the honey toffee nut blended is 10/10) and the baked goods do not disappoint. The service is also fabulous and I’ve enjoyed my conversations with Abby while she makes my coffee each week. So glad to have a local spot to read and enjoy my coffee when I need a bit of time out of the house without the long drive to Rock Hill or Charlotte.

My friend has recommended Hillside several times….. So while in Chester today, we gave it a shot. We were hoping that this may be a new favorite spot but we were very disappointed. We were one of two tables in the restaurant. Service was good, everyone was friendly but the food was not worth $70. The chef making the pizzas was not wearing gloves. That’s a huge DHEC issue if they are caught. (I have 10 years restaurant experience and have dealt with DHEC many times.) When my pizza came, it looked and smelled delicious but was ice cold when I bit into it. My brother’s was only luke warm. He ate his, I left mine and reordered 2 cheese pizzas. They came and they were a tad bit warmer but not as hot as they should be. As I was eating mine, I noticed blue paint chips on the bottom of the crust. My brother and I figured out that it must be off the side of the pizza oven where they lay the big spatula that they put the pizzas in the oven with. It scraps it everytime they lay it beside it. That’s not sanitary either. I went to the restroom and as I walked by the kitchen another employee was standing at the stove on his cell phone. Despite our experience thus far, I ordered my husband a salad togo. When I got home and he opened it, the mixed greens were not fresh at all. They were wilted and the avocado was black. Yuck! My brother was actually sick before we got home. I’m praying that my daughter and I do not get sick as well. There are alot of issues at this place that need addressed. We will not be returning.

Been to Hillside many times now and consistently have a great experience with beautiful people! The breakfast items made by Glenda are scrumptious as well, a personal favorite are her scones (scrummy texture and flavor to die for!). Always something new at Hillside which keeps you going back for more! Bypassing them would be a monumental mistake.
