It was awful. My steak, was tough, fatty and tasted like the cool sprinkled the entire bottle of steak seasoning on it. I couldn’t eat it. They brought me another one and again way over seasoned but this time it was almost raw and didn’t eat that one either. The corn was horrible and way to spicy. My husband had a burger and didn’t eat all his either. It was just a horrible experience. For the prices go to a real steakhouse. On a good note our waitress was good.

I usually do not post reviews but I was so disappointed with the steak here. I wish that I could post a picture of it on here. The price I paid for this steak and to have at least a third but close to half of it to be fat. You would think that they would not allow this to go out to customer. I took a picture and shared with family. We have all been wanting to try this place. Very disappointed. We Will Not be returning. I will drive south to Waco in the future. Staff was very courteous and the place has a very pleasant atmosphere.

Just moved to the area and this is our new favorite place to go. My husband gets the ribeye and I like the flat iron steaks. Always tender and cooked right. The onion rings are great and mashed potatoes are wonderful. The service is always fast and friendly too. Really enjoy this place and will probably become regulars.

I liked the atmosphere, the food was really good, albiet a bit slow to come out. You can tell that they make all their burgers by hand.

Went to Cleburne location to celebrate a co worker’s birthday. We told the waitress it was his birthday, she didn’t even acknowledge it. Not sure of your policy regarding birthdays, but the least she could have done is wish him a Happy Birthday. We were literally 1 of 3 tables in the entire restaurant for the 1.5+ hours we were there, yet our drinks continuously fell empty and we were rarely checked on. The waitress seemed like we were more a bother to her than anything. A gentleman came in about 30 minutes before we left, as soon as he sat down, she sat with him and we never got any attention from her after that. I made eye contact with her multiple times, but she made no attempt to come check on us. This was our 1st experience with Cattle Guard and most definitely be the last.

Food is okay, but the decor is not very good at all. Cheap-o tables and chairs, uncomfortable, more like a cafe that happens to serve steak. This place really needs a makeover. Super-cheesy on the outside too. The boring sign on the building indicates what kind of a restaurant you’ll find when you walk in the doors.

My wife and I have been wanting to eat here for a few weeks now; Due to word of mouth at my job. Well, we just left two minutes ago and this is my honest to goodness review of ‘Cattle Guard Steakhouse’. I will mention what was good about the place and also things that could be improved to better improve their business. First off, (good) the place looks great. Has a home and rustic feel to it. (Improve) The entrance is just one door. On a windy or gusty day the breeze will create problems for eating patrons near the door. I recommend building a secondary door way hall. To keep the sun, wind, bugs, and anything else from entering. Continuing, (good) our server and their work crew was great. (Good) our server was present throughout the service. Our drinks were always filled even when she was busy with other customers. (Improvement) While we waited for our food. We didn’t have any type of complimentary bread or salad. I wondered why not so I politely asked if cattle guard served bread or salad. After we asked the waitress since we were new there. She went and got it for us with no problem. But before my wife and I were even able to bite down on the bread. Our food came out. Continuing, (Good) baked potatoes rock here. (Improve) Mashed potatoes was bland. No seasoning, spices, and it came out lukewarm. (GOOD) On my end, their Cattle Corn was off the hook. For my wife it was ok. It was absolutely delicious. Definitely gives it a home cooking feel. (Good) The plates are a good size (Improve) Their silverware is very flimsy and cheaply. Reminded me of a buffet place silverware. While cutting into my steak my fork kept bending on me. MY STEAK… I ordered a 12oz ribeye medium rare. My wife ordered the 10 oz New york Strip Medium rare. (Good) My steak was Delicious. (Improve) A little too much gristle on both steaks. It made some areas very tough to eat. (Good) The fat was minimal and yummy. (Improve) Both our steaks came out borderline Medium. It was still good despite that. (Improve) You could clearly see that one side was cooked longer than the other. (Improve) The dessert I had was the banana pudding. It was absurdly small when I placed it to go. Considering a customer shells out quite a bit for eating there. You figure they would offer a little more dessert than they did. (Improve) Someone opened the front door and a strong gust of wind knocked over our bread basket. (Good/Bad) Our waitress didn’t give us our Check so my wife and I waited and waited and as she walked By I asked for the check and she told me it was already at the front counter. After we got to the cashier. She had to look for our receipt. I can see future problems with receipt mix ups. Especially with the wind issue. BOTTOMLINE: If a steakhouse is amazing, one of a kind, and has a vibrant feel, people will drive long distances just to go their steak there. My wife and I drove 35 minutes to eat there. But unless we drive south anywhere towards the waco direction. We won’t be going there just because we want their food. Cattle Guard has an insane amount of potential. The Feel and look is good. Food was Good. Service was good. I recommend people go there and make their own judgement. This place does not deserve a one, two, or three star review. It has enough going for it that I can actually see it growing and becoming more well known.

The 8 0z stake was 3 oz of fat and gristle. The chicken fired stake was mostly chicken fry, the gravy was nasty, and right out of a box. I was not impressed by the service, or the food. The Potatoes were good, as was the salad. But I came for the Stake! For my money; this place is the “taste of disappointment”. If McDonald’s started serving stakes and chicken fried stakes, this place would be out of business.
