Passed by Galvan’s several times before even noticing it. Stopped by today to give it a try, and it was great. This is a no-frills place, the kind that I like.

Hey, man! This hole in the wall has some purty darn good BBQ. Great BBQ odor from outside and authentic no frills restaurant inside that gave a garage bbq feeling (which I enjoyed). Staff greeted me and was cordial, respectful, and friendly. I had the brisket and sausage plate and, maaaan, finger linkin good!!! Brisket had the charred, fatty bark with good smoky flavor (mmm-mmmmmm!!) sausage was not greasy and flavorful. Coleslaw was a lot more chopped than I prefer, but taste was good. Even the black eyed peas are delicious. I grabbed the homemade spicy chicharrones as a snack and I’m not disappointed. If I was local, I’d be a regular customer. I recommend eating here.

The default for smoking the beef brisket is pecan wood. You might custom order some mesquite-smoked brisket if you wish, if they have advance notice and they’re not too busy. They have some small pits for individual orders out in the yard. The pork sausage and deer sausage (pork blend? not sure) are pecan-smoked, again they might smoke you some with either mesquite (South Texas style), or post oak (Central Texas style). They sell pecan, oak, and mesquite wood out in the yard, where they also sell small barbeque smoker-type grills.

Great barbecue for an honest price. The staff is friendly, definitely good hardworking Texas people making great food. Whether it’s Chicken, Sausage, Brisket, or Boudaine, they do it right. The sides are simple but prepared well. The Beans, Spanish Rice, Slaw, Potato Salad are great barbecue accompaniments. They’re not doing anything groundbreaking but their by the book approach and friendly service makes the locals come back for more.
