Oh my, I threw half my brisket away!! ZERO flavor. Very expensive for bland food. I haven’t been this disappointed in long time. Now the cornbread was delicious. Completely over priced. Even Famous Dave’s a fast food joint has more flavor.

It’s hard not to comment on others posts. Buuuuut…I’m resisting…We came through Lamar, Iowa on some “ice cream festival”weekend, our brief stop proved incredible. The town itself was charming-and then we found the Iowa BBQ Company. I’ve run barbecue restaurants whose names many would recognize and have no trouble loading up my house, yard, and acreage with folks when I choose to barbecue and smoke meats-which I’ve been doing for over 30 years. That said-this place is legit! There is no shortage of great meat in Iowa and these folks know what to do with it! They have one of the most impressive smokers I’ve ever seen. Even the sausage, which is hard to get right, was great. The brisket, ribs, chicken, and pulled pork (yes, we sampled all of them) all pretty smoking amazing! The engaging staff, even the free beer(!) (interesting we were driving so I had to decline that one) oh, this place was really well thought out Overall-from someone who has sampled barbecue throughout the company and will be a judge at a competition this weekend-I was extremely impressed. I would not have been going by and found the welcoming staff, the awesome proprietor, the kind lady behind the counter who makes all the sides (seriously, the macaroni and cheese should be its own food group) but for an odd side trip. A nearly perfect experience in an off the beaten path, kind of hard to find place. When my travels take me even remotely back to this area, we will return here. Thanks so much-great job!

The staff is hard working and very professional and care about your experience. However, the smoked meats barely taste like they are smoked. I worked at a smoke house in Parker county Texas (Drake’s Yoke). We smoked out brisket for 18-24 hours before serving. The brisket here tastes like it was on maybe 2-4 hours. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still tasty. But I’ve had better smoked brisket off of the highway from some food truck then I’ve had here.

We popped in for lunch while in Le Mars for work. From the moment you walk in, you know from the smell & layout you’re in a BBQ joint. The service is Texas style by weight. Pick your meats & your weight, and then your sides. The brisket & jalapeño cheddar sausage were both really good. I’m partial to Texas style salt-pepper-garlic rub on brisket, but whatever they are using on theirs at Iowa BBQ Co is also good with a slight sweetness that isn’t overpowering. It’s well-balanced and the meat itself was really moist.

Good BBQ. The menu is a tad confusing, but not overly full of choices. Maybe caught the staff on a bad day, but none of them looked happy to be there and were curt. Our group got a variety and all the meat was good. Not a fan of any of the sides we got. Coleslaw was blah, mac&cheese was bland and mushy, cornbread was like yellow cake. I will avoid the sides next time, but will eat there again.

I stumbled across this fantastic place and ordered lunch, and it was exceptional. All sides are unique and made in-house. Homemade sides at BBQ restaurants are sometimes hit or miss, but they have great flavors and portions, and again, they make them all in-house. I will definitely stop again.

Restaurant is super nice, clean, and modern. Staff were helpful and very friendly. The meat is fresh, moist, perfect. The cornbread was awesome. We also ordered the potato salad and baked beans. The potato salad was flavorful and had a red pepper flavor. The baked beans were very spicy and bold. They had two sauces available, bourbon sweet and Texas heat. The bourbon sauce was extreme BOURBON and the Texas heat had a strong chili flavor. Although we didnt personally care for the sauce or the bold flavors of the potato salad & baked beans….the meat alone was absolutely worth it. It’s not that those items weren’t good, as I know that everyone has their thing, they just weren’t for us. But unless you try it you wouldn’t know. They were definitely high quality, fresh, and homemade. I know that we will definitely be back and I have plenty of family & friends who would love the bold flavors. We ordered the chicken, brisket, and pulled pork. I’m still shocked at how perfect all the meat was as well as being tender and juicy. You choose your amounts of meat. Excellent smoked BBQ!!!

It was empty at the time we went but the service was great. The food tasted really good. Pricing is all by weight but worth it and the sauces there gave it a good kick!

Good bbq, nice counter service. Excellent atmosphere, love hearing blues music in any restaurant. We tried a little bit of everything. Being a bbq aficionado and competition cook my experience my differ from most patrons. Overall a good bbq offering at a fair price. I’d put a bit more smoke on the ribs. The sausage was delicious but a little tough on the ends. Brisket was tender and juicy, a good representation of how brisket should be prepared and served. I like my brisket with more smoke and seasoning (personal preference). My wife said my pulled pork has more flavor and juicyness. Not much around this region for bbq so we’d be back. A good stop when you’re planning a visit to the Blue Bunny Visitor Center and ice cream parlor.
