What a blessing to have found this lovely hometown treasure! Billie Jo has amazing homemade baked goods and menu items to satisfy any food palate. I loved the atmosphere — made me wish I could own a restaurant like this in Minnesota because it was so inviting, relaxing, and welcoming. My friend and I had the chicken salad sandwich with pasta and chips, coffee, and an oatmeal cookie sandwiched between this delectable vanilla cream frosting. Yum, yum, yum. The cookie we ate much later and couldn’t even eat the whole darn thing because it was so filling. But darn, it was so good! I might have to plan another trip to Des Moines so I can stop by Simply Mae’s again and try another one of her simply delicious homemade foods.

I had the ham and cheesy potato hotdish. I went in for lunch on a cold rainy day. It was the brightest thing I found that day. Delicious food. Welcoming staff. Need to check out if you find yourself in Story City, IA.

This is a beautifully decorated place with staff as nice and sweet as can be. They have many incredible items for the home or cabin for sale. The food is nothing less than excellent, and the prices are very fair. While we were there many customers arrived, some ate in and some carried out . We were just passing through but plan on stopping on our way back. I recommend the open face roast beef with luscious gravy and mashed potatoes accompanied by a side of piping hot corn. Top it off with their wonderful apple pie. 5 out of 5 stars.

1st time visit & if we lived closer we would probably become regulars. Greeted with friendly smiles, a small easy lunch menu, fresh iced tea & baked goodies. The club sandwich came with chips & pasta salad. It was all very tasty, large portion & affordable. Thanks ladies!
