Let’s start by acknowledging that the view of Long Island Sound is truly remarkable. However, the overall experience leaves much to be desired. The glass of wine provided was disappointingly minuscule, akin to a dixie cup, which felt rather disrespectful considering the price. On a positive note, the food was enjoyable. Unfortunately, the wait staff was largely inattentive, frequently huddled together in a corner of the dining room engrossed in their conversations. Regrettably, I had to actively seek their attention whenever they sporadically emerged in the dining area. Were it not for the captivating view, revisiting this establishment would certainly not be on my agenda.

The service was awful, the food awful and sat over priced. We ate here the day we arrived since our room was not going to be ready for 2 hours. lobster roll $45! Fishy. We found other restaurants in the area with $18 rolls that were delicious. Clam chowder barely had clams. Heriloom tomato salad for $20 nothing special. Fruit salad was some pieces of cantaloupe with sad blueberries. Crab dip too much mayo and not worth $27.

The staff is not trained whatsoever to even a 3 star level, forget 5 star. They would interrupt us with “you all good?” and one waiter literally asked why one member of our party wasn’t drinking alcohol. Just really unprofessional, NOT a 5 star experience whatsoever.

Service is mediocre, and the food took forever to come out. The excuse : it is our second day opening for the season. When you charge $40 for a lobster roll, you better knock my socks with your service and attention. The food is decent, but not a R&C standards. First time we ever had sub par service at the Ocean House. Got unlucky with the most unhappy waiter. Just wasn’t pleasant and never smiled once. He just wanted to take our orders. Everyone else that helped us was perfect. None of us were even rude, just shocked that was an Ocean House waiter. Pandemic waitstaff shortage? Maybe he was having a bad day? Still tipped 20% We’ll be back, he just wont be our waiter.

I love visiting Ocean House, but I mostly just came for the views and the upscale setting. The food on the verandah was very underwhelming but incredibly overpriced. Please, do better, ocean house! The oysters, little necks, and jumbo shrimp were good, but the charcuterie plate and tomato soup were just alright. It’s just not what you would expect for the price.
