We took an last minute trip to East Haven for a weekend. A great, sleepy little town on the coast of the Long Island Sound. Not much to do here, which is what we were looking for. Our first night in town we had dinner at Sandpiper, which we found while walking down the road. The ice cream shop on the shore side threw us for a moment, but then realized the restaurant entrance was in back. The atmosphere was great! Very quiet even though the dining room had quite a few guests inside. The decor was simple, but you certainly get the nautical theme.

Customer service from Tristan was 15/10. Quality of food 15/10. I recommend the calamari and New England chowder for apps, the steamed whole Lobster and steamers and or just the lobster were delicious. Dessert was recommended to me black raspberry chocolate chip ice cream. Im a new girl in this town and did not disappoint as my first restaurant in East Haven wow.

Based on reviews I’ve read prior to the visit, I had high hopes for this place. Perhaps it is not a fair comparison other than their proximity to one another but Lobster Shack down the street had far better food and service but was little more pricey. When it comes to seafood, however, I’d rather pay more to get fresh, well prepared items instead of feeling like I just had mediocre lunch.

It’s sad that I’m writing such a negative review for a place that I always called my favorite. I’ve been coming back to Sandpiper for almost 20 years. I have told numerous numerous amounts of people to come there based on the food and the environment and staff. Sadly this will be coming to an end because it’s been nothing but bad experiences since the old owners left. The place is dirty like it hasn’t been cleaned since they closed last year. I can only imagine how the old owners would feel now if they walked in as customers. Food isn’t portioned the same between visits.. let alone it takes 45 minutes to even get a fried dish to come out. Before I can even order, I’m not even offered a water or a drink order for 15 minutes at times. All these new hires that are just hired with no work ethic or care for making sure the customer is happy in the end !! I’ve never had an issue with all of the old staff in the past, I just wish these new people took after the veteran employees.

I just love the food here the shrimp it was just to die for. The food It was just so delicious and that very cute hostess boy with that red neck tattoo was really kind and a big sweet heart and just had the sweetest smile it’s upsetting I forgot what he said he’s nam was. He help me and my family out so much yesterday we send him all our love and thanks for yesterday. And the waiters were all very kind and lovely. the customer service here was just amazing the food took a little longer because they got very busy but other than that it was just more than great I recommend everyone to come here. My family and I send all our love and hopes to the people that work at the sandpiper.

If you’re looking for a quick bite this spot is a great option. Service is fast and very friendly. Olivia was our server and she was wonderful. The stuffed clams were more stuffing than clam, but they were flavorful. Worth the visit.

Awesome little seafood restaurant right next to the ocean! Came here for the first time for my brothers birthday and food was delicious. I ordered a hot lobster roll platter and New England clam chowder. Service was great! Staff was friendly and even took a picture of me and my family.

Very good gluten free menu. They have gluten free fries in a dedicated fryer! They also have gluten free bread for lobster rolls. My family really enjoyed the non gluten free items too.

I don’t know if a restaurant can ruin a family vacation, but Sandpiper certainly came close. The absolute slowest service I have ever experienced. For some reason, we came twice… as there aren’t many restaurants around. And the second time was twice as long as the first!!

This unassuming corner restaurant has a lot going on! It has a beautiful bar and dining room, a lovely, covered patio, and a walk-up window with outdoor seating. We chose the covered patio for an early lunch at 12 p.m. on a Sunday. Although the website says they open at noon, they were already open at 11:30 am. The entrance is wheelchair and walker accessible with a small bump up. Once inside, it was easy to get a walker around. Our table for four against the covered patio brick wall had a limited view of the beach across the street, with comfortable seats and air flow that were very welcoming. And so was the staff! Our waitress was very responsive and kept checking on us. Be sure to note that the “Baked & Broiled Lunch Specials” are only available Monday through Friday from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm. Thumbs up for the fried shrimp, salad with grilled chicken, chicken tenders, and iced tea. We’ll be back on another nice day and may order those amazing looking onion rings or dessert!
