I enjoyed our dinner, definitely got our BBQ “fix”. I had the Brisket burnt ends. Seriously, only issue I had was the overwhelming sugary BBQ sauce that was added. If they focused more on juicy crispy burnt ends… They may be on to something.

Breakfast is the best option at this little restaurant. The biscuits are actually quite delicious. Ribs were way overcooked, parmesan chicken had a spoiled, curdled flavor, but people said the catfish was nice. Extremely subpar food overall. Service is generally good. Did not have mixed drinks so can’t speak to that.

Drove some distance with a friend to eat lunch and enjoy the scenery. The scenery and drive were great, the food and quality, not so much. Though the service was slow, we had a wonderful waitress but the quality of food was greatly lacking and disappointing.

“Smokehouse” connotes deliciousness, and that is not what you’ll find here. If you stay at the Shawnee Lodge, you’re basically hostage to this one lousy dining choice unless you want to drive 1/2 hr+ into a nearby town (needless to say delivery from outside isn’t happening). There are NO other nearby options for any food when you stay here, and the lodge lacks a snack bar, frozen food for sale in a shop, or anything else except bagged snacks. On the plus side they serve fairly fresh complementary take-out coffee to lodge guests. We got at two different meals a pulled smoked pork sandwich, smoked 1/2 chicken, and teriyaki wings. No smoke discernable in the pork and it tasted like like day old crock pot pork. The smoked chicken was a bland mass of protein with rubbery skin. The teriyaki wings were tasteless. My wife and I ate very little of either chicken entree and we are NOT that picky. The best item was a side salad. For the prices, we wrote off the restaurant after two meals. My guess is the kitchen mass prepares food every few days and heats up entrees for several days after, because nothing had any real flavor. The Smokehouse makes Frisch’s seem gourmet…. not kidding. For the quality, this restaurant is WAY expensive for what it serves and doesn’t seem to even try. If you stay at the lodge, tow a chuck wagon behind your vehicle if you want to eat anything decent.

We visited midday during the week so we were the only folks dining. Our server took extremely good care of us. The menu has a decent variety and the prices aren’t bad either. This was a much better experience than our last visit when it was the O-Hee-Yuh (or something similar) however our receipt did have the old restaurant’s name on it. Just something to be aware of when you balance your account.

The Smokehouse is highly under rated. If you want great brisket at an affordable price you really need to visit Shawnee Lodge. You won’t be disappointed. The food is great and the service is even better. You owe it to yourself to try the Smokehouse at Shawnee Lodge.

My only complaint is having to schedule around the hours. breakfast is 8-11 lunch 11-2. No Food being served between 2 and 5, which is a bit ridiculous imo. The next closest restaurant is pretty far away. So on a rainy day like today I’m just waiting for them to open.
