Genoa Pizza owner Giuseppe Pizzo was born in Detroit, Mich., and he grew up in Italy. He opened his restaurant in Sugar Grove 20 years ago, but the real history dates back to 1975, when his grandfather opened his Genoa Pizza in Genoa, Ill.
It all starts with good quality product, Pizzo said. We have a good, quality pizza sauce and pizza dough that was handed down from my Uncle Pete.
Pizzo said he started out his work life as a finishing carpenter. When he found himself in hard times, he said his brothers gave him an opportunity, and here I am, 20 years later.

Genoas used to be our go to pizza place for over 20 years. Unfortunately over this past year the quality has gone from great to very poor. We kept giving it another chance, thinking maybe it was just an off night, but tonight we’ve made the decision to never order again. First of all, their prices have gone up dramatically (which I get, but we are talking between $3-$5 per pizza). Second, their pizzas have not been consistent (ig crust extremely burned, then another one not cooked fully). Their quality control is not up to par at all, I had 1 slice that was 1 inch x 3 inches, then another slice, right next to it that was 4 inches x 5 inches. Lastly, we had a lovely blonde hair in our sauce under the cheese. The kicker of it all is they offered me a $10 credit.. No thanks, you can keep that $10, as I’ll never be back.

This place has been my family’s go-to pizza spot since I can remember. Great service and great food. My only complaint is they haven’t opened a location in Nashville Tennessee where I live. So for now, I’ll continue to order pizzas when I visit and attempt to bring them back to Tennessee without eating them on the 8 hour drive.

I love their pizza and will give them a 5-star rating but I am not sure I will be ordering from them anymore. They only use this terrible Slice platform which now charges a $10 delivery fee. Long gone are the days of mom and pop pizza places providing reasonably priced delivery.

Simply the best pizza around. I used to get it often when they had a location in Oswego, but even now it is well worth what ends up being an hour round trip to get. It’s still hot by the time I get home and extremely tasty. Even leftover it is still superior to any of the competition. I don’t know what I would do if I moved much further away from Sugar Grove, because I’ve never found pizza better than Genoa, and I’ve had pizza from many, many local restaurants. It still tastes just as consistently fantastic as it did when I was a kid.
