I absolutely love Tacos El Norte in Highland Park, IL! The staff there is incredibly friendly and welcoming. They go above and beyond by remembering regular customers’ names, making you feel like a part of their family. The best part is that they take “homemade” to a whole new level. Superlative everything. The team at Tacos El Norte is the warmest, most caring, talented, and fun group you‘ll ever encounter in a restaurant setting. Everything on the menu is expertly prepared, made from scratch and on-site, and is the most authentic you’ll find. A rare find. Don’t mistake any of the other area Tacos El Norte locations for this one; they’re clearly not.

This is our GO TO Mexican food restaurant. We moved to Highwood, just to be close! The service is excellent, they use really good, fresh ingredients (you can watch them prepare your meals), and the prices are pretty good, too! I love their guacamole and chips…some of the best guac I’ve had at a restaurant. We also love their chorizo tacos. I’ve had lots of items off their menu and have never been disappointed! You have to give them a try. They are family friendly, but also serve alcohol if you desire that. There is lots of outdoor seating and a good amount of seating indoors, too. When it’s nice outside, eat outside!

Been going to Tacos El Norte since the early 90s when I was a kid growing up I’m Mundelein. The Highwood location doesn’t disappoint!!! Same great flavors!! Amazing service, kind staff and overall the Mexican food you can get outside of Chicago. You’ve tried the rest now try the best. A staple in Lake County and I will forever be a loyal customer.

For the last few years, this has been our go-to Mexican restaurant. It was never about the atmosphere (as they have none. It’s in a decrepit strip mall.) But, we enjoyed their food and probably ordered at least 3-4 times a month for the past 10 years. In that time, the service and quality have slowly gone downhill. Plus, I have found that they make mistakes with our orders more and more frequently. Seems like they don’t care, or maybe they have enough customers? Either way, they have one less customer now.
