We were in the mood for good Jewish style deli and decided to try out a new place in Newtown, The Borscht Belt. Nice design concept calling to mind the old summer resorts of the Catskill Mountains (think Dirty Dancing with Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey.) We went for lunch on a Tuesday and arrived just before one o’clock, it was busy but we were pleasantly greeted when we arrived and seated immediately. Our server Talli promptly asked what we would like to drink and if we’d like pickles and coleslaw. We placed our drink order and said yes to the pickles and coleslaw. A generous serving of pickles came out as spears along with a side plate of coleslaw. The coleslaw was clearly homemade and was crunchy and tasty. My wife settled on a Corned Beef Reuben and I had a Joan Rivers (Pastrami, schmear of chopped liver, tomato and russian dressing) and added red onion. We also shared an order of potato latkes. Both our sandwiches were delicious. My wife said it was the best Reuben she’s ever had. My sandwich was terrific, the pastrami was moist and tasty and not too thinly sliced, but for me the highlight was the chopped liver. Some chopped liver is dry, sticky or clumpy and barely tastes of liver, this was none of those. It was moist, smooth and had a nice pleasant chicken liver flavor. The potato latkes were well done and served with both sour cream and applesauce. The applesauce was also homemade and complimented the latkes nicely. So, pleasant and attentive service and good food, we’ll be back!

Wow, Borscht Belt is amazing! My partner got an excellent sandwich (the RPG) and I got a kippered salmon on a bialy. We also got some latkes and the chocolate babka french toast. Everything was so unbelievably good!

Disappointing. We went on their publicized opening day and again on June 23, 2023.

I got some takeout from the Newtown store today for lunch. I ordered through the website and it was easy and customizable.

Ordered the Ruben Sandwich to try out the new restaurant. The $22 for each sandwich feels expensive given that the sandwich is ok at best. I’ve had much better ones for less money. The coleslaw was pretty awful, and lacked flavor. The side pickle had an odd taste that no one recognized, and we didnt want to eat it. The restaurant itself is very nice and clean, but I don’t think we’ll be going back.

I went to the Borscht Belt for lunch and ordered the pastrami sandwich. Pastrami is usually red – not grayish pink. It was fatty and disgusting tasting. I also had the chicken soup which is usually yellow in color, this was brown and did not taste like any chicken soup I’ve ever had. Very disappointing. Is this what you call fresh cold cuts? Disgusting. I will never come back.

I really wanted to love this place but unfortunately wasn’t impressed. I also paid $8 for a small cheesecake that came frozen with mold spots all over it. I was very disappointed and it’s hard to look past the moldy food to enjoy the rest.

We visited The Borscht Belt for the first time today with giddy anticipation. While the setting and service did not disappoint, the experience was uneven at best. I ordered a drip cup of coffee which was tepid. Although the server made a fresh pot to give me another cup which was steaming hot. Thank you!

First time here- overall pretty solid. I got the Brown sandwich, and while it seemed expensive at first, there was a lot of smoked salmon and whitefish on it. It was tasty. My wife ordered a bagel with cream cheese and was slightly disappointed the bagel was so warm ( she doesn’t like warm cream cheese). This is likely just a preference thing over quality. I wasn’t familiar with the Borscht brand, so I guess that’s partially what you’re paying for.
