The Hungry Toad, a British pub, was founded in County Surrey, just SW of London, and later moved stateside by its proprietor Terry Morton. The building was originally a grocer and general store in 1904 and still features a visible wagon-delivery dock out by our beer garden! After 30 years, when Terry was ready to retire, two long-time patrons stepped in. Armed with the motto “God Save The Toad,” a fierce commitment to community and quality, and a lot of elbow grease, the new owners reopened the pub’s doors on November 9th, 2022. The Hungry Toad is proud to honor the tradition of the British pub in our hometown of Boulder, Colorado, bringing friends and neighbors together as a community over cold beer, good food, and lively conversation.

Lunch at @thehungrytoadboulder I was very concerned when The Hungry Toad closed for COVID. Then it reopened but not for lunch. I found it reopened for lunch several months ago. Finally was able to try it. The menu does seem a little smaller but the French onion soup and bangers and smashed were very good. The seasonal vegetable was a Brussels sprouts and kale with sweet potatoes that I really enjoyed.

Searching for a full English breakfast Facebook said try here. Went after work Sunday after getting out early. Got there a a number of people were there to watch a televised game from England. Nice deco with lots of wood and a pub like feel. Ordered the full English and splurged with a brunch cocktail using gin. Food came out fast and looked great. While I would have loved having black pudding, it did have fried bread which I had read about but never tried. Also a surprise, was the addition of hash browns that weren’t listed on the menu description of the dish. But these were not like any I have ever had before. Super finely shredded they were light and fluffy. Perfect to absorb egg yolk. The drink was ok but I chalk that up to me not being a big gin drinker and not due to the bartender’s skill. They had other dishes that really interested me and I will be back. Preferably when another game is on to add to the atmosphere.

Extremely underrated with 4.3 stars. All entrees my table received were elevated and prepared to perfection. If you are cautious of the “English” menu because of picky eaters, have no fear, there a plenty of options for everyone. This restaurant is also extremely dog friendly. The Hungry Toad is a top restaurant in Boulder, especially with the reasonable pricing.

Brunch was perfect, especially the biscuits! The homemade jam was tops. The crunchy eggy toast was beautiful and delicious but the breakfast sandwich blew us away it was huge and so good. I’ll be back to try the biscuits with gravy

We love this place. The food is fantastic (old pub dinner salad!) and the beer perfect. The ambiance is exactly what you’d want in an English pub. We never feel rushed, the owners are so friendly—it’s our go-to place whenever we have a babysitter.

Love The Hungry Toad! New brunch menu is fantastic, and as always, the Guinness pour is as good as I’ve had in pubs abroad. They show Premier League fixtures which is a huge draw for me, and service (even during the busiest matches) is still attentive. Will always come back!
