Really different from what I’m used to, but it was a nice experience. I really loved the calm atmosphere. They were a bit busy when we arrived so we sat on the patio. It wasn’t too hot with the misting fans and it was around 7PM. Service was a bit slow in the beginning….I think the host forgot to tell the server about us.

As you drive in, you can already tell how gorgeous the grounds are. The pathway up to the house is brick and classic. Gorgeous trees with lights set the mood. Inside the house it feels super classic from the decor to the style of outfit that all the staff wears. It’s so beautiful we are looking at it for our venue. Once you sit down to eat, it gets even better. Absolutely delicious food from the biscuits and rainbow carrot appetizers to the rice bowl and burger. Everything was cooked perfectly and had a ton of flavor. Very unique. 10/10 would recommend for a date night or to rent for a special event!!

Mattie’s is so beautiful! Like walking into the old south! Formerly known as Green Pastures, Mattie’s kept me favorite drink on the menu – Milk Punch. A must-try alcoholic beverage made with brandy and ice cream. Served in small cups for a reason!!

OMG! I have not been here in 30 years. Totally different restaurant concept, but the food is still amazing. I would characterize the restaurant as upscale southern cooking. The building is an old style southern mansion with peacocks roaming the grounds. The gumbo was outstanding although surprisingly spicy hot. Fried chicken perfectly seasoned and delicious.

A bit of a letdown. My girlfriend and I were visiting from New Jersey and she was excited when she discovered Mattie’s. Our reservation was a little late, but not quickly approaching closing time. We were seated fairly quickly, but it took quite some time for our server to come over. I recall the drinks taking some time to get to the table as well. We ordered everything at once, and it came out nice and staggered. All the apps were great like the mushroom and burrata and fried green tomatoes. We still rarely saw our server. The biggest bummer was my girlfriend ordering a shrimp and grits (I think) feature and the shrimp coming out not fully cooked, still somewhat transparent in the center. And again, it took a while for us to see our server and let them know so they could fix the issue. That sort of did it in for us that night. I’d like to mention that there were other servers and FoH folks around and helping in our servers stead and huge thanks to them! Pretty good experience, wish it had been way better.

Went to Austin for a girl’s weekend and was looking for a good brunch spot. When we arrived, we waited about 10 minutes for our table- (had a reservation) didn’t mind this, as it gave us time to meander around the house. When one of the waiters saw me taking photos of the fireplace and portrait, he stopped and told us the entire history of the building, and the family that had initially opened the restaurant. This small gesture of stopping what he was doing when he could’ve ignored us is the epitome of excellent customer service, and wish I got his name. We were seated outside on the porch, and it was perfect. We ordered the biscuits to start, because I’m pretty sure it’s required in the South, and ooh boy do not miss out. Our service was so prompt even our waitress was shocked at how quickly our food came out. Everything tasted fantastic, the ambiance and location was exactly what we were looking for, and the service was the best out of anywhere we went in Austin. Highly recommend!

I went in for a late lunch to Mattie’s. We got the Fried Chicken Eggs Benedict and the burger with a side of bacon. For an appetizer we got the buttermilk biscuits with strawberry butter which was delicious. The food was amazing but the ambience was even better. They even have peacocks roaming around the property. Will definitely be back soon to check out the dinner menu. Strongly recommend this place if in Austin.

What a phenomenal conversion of a plantation style mansion to a restaurant. So much history and charm. Oh, did I mention the food?? A little secret… It’s world class. Delicious!

Mattie’s has such a great atmosphere and delicious food. I love going there for date night. The grounds are beautiful and the peacocks roaming the property are always a treat to see. I had their Wild Mushroom Toast for the first time last night and it was amazing.
