Quirky market with mismatch coffee mugs and tables, situated against an amazing forest backdrop. The rear wall features vintage knick knacks for sale at affordable prices that double as a kitschy backdrop inside the restaurant. You’ll order first before securing a table, and the seating is intimate but you’re not on top of each other. We ordered the waffle, Bowlrito, and a side of potatoes, and enjoyed the coffee and perused the items for sale while waiting. We both found the Waffle to be a little pedestrian, but the potatoes were seasoned well and cooked to an ideal consistency. The Bowlrito had a unique and tasty flavor, likely from their cowboy beans, and after tasting these it made me want to try some of their other dishes with the same beans. The portions are not exactly overwhelming, so we continued to the dessert portion of breakfast and ordered a peach scone and coffee cake(with walnut?). The scone was dry and chunky but the coffee cake was the real winner, moist with a rich cinnamon taste. Would definitely get again. Parking in the area is tight, and it’d be easier park down the way on Strutevalt and face a short walk uphill than constantly roaming around for closer parking. My came on a rainy, gloomy morning, but I envision Mary’s as a place to have a great summer lunch, or a spot to fuel up before your morning walk in the mountains.

I loved the ambiance of this eclectic little hidden restaurant. I had some kind of crumb cake and it was delicious. Coffee was surprisingly palatable. Don’t expect any frills, this is a modest spot.

One of the best dining experiences I’ve had in LA. Almost fearful to promote this spot because it’s such a cute hidden gem!

One of a kind experience in a beautiful location. A variety of menu items all of which are good. Friendly staff and overall wonderful atmosphere. You can sit inside to be transported back in time or sit on the patio or next to the river to relax in nature.

Fun place and interesting location/neighborhood. The food was good and we sat outside by the sound of a stream. Nice way to start the day.

When we arrived we thought that this wouldn’t be a great place but am so glad we stayed and ate. It’s in a stunning area, very cool and shaded. The place itself is very basic, almost a canteen type feel. But once you are inside, the friendliness of the staff overwhelms you. They were lovely. You have to order food at the counter, but then they bring your order to you. Coffee condiments are self serve, tables are covered in brown paper. All of this doesn’t give you hope for a great breakfast. But the food when it arrived was wonderful and fresh and delicious. It wasn’t oversized or fried. It was beautiful fresh food cooked really well. The Benedict was the best we have had in USA. And the poached eggs was great.

Pro Tip: If you can carpool, do it. This place is nearly impossible when it comes to parking. People even double-park behind other customers or the residents whom live there.

Beautiful hideout in the Sierra Madre Hills, offers a great place chill or a break from your walks. Food is bit pricey but it is worth it if you find contentment and peace. I did, as I was here in the middle of emailing and phone calls. Needed something to mak me happy. With the running brook on the other side of road, delicious food, and a warm cup of coffee, I was grounded and ready to continue my day.
