After 26 years in the Navy, the Cleveland native retired in Hawai’i with his family and decided that his love for cooking expanded beyond his career in the military. What started as an in-home catering business quickly blossomed into a thriving company.
Ken Hughley, owner and chef, was inspired by his grandmother. With her ties to Arkansas, the two shared many precious memories in the kitchen. He was taught everything he knows by her! To honor his mother and grandmother, the restaurant was originally named Ken Nae’s but later was switched over to Hughley’s (which is
pronounced Hue-glee).
You can experience flavor with soul here, or at one of our two food trucks! ALOHA!!

Excellent and quality service and food. Nice to have this as an option to hit up here in Hawaii when you are so far away from the East Coast.

What a gem . The servings were large , food delishious and the service was outstanding. Loved the exuberance from the staff abd they went the extra mile to ensure everything was to our liking. Highly recommended.

First visit. Great staff. Amazing food. Fantastic array of Southern favorites. You can taste the love. Generous portions. We dined in and enjoyed choosing our own seats at the comfortable tables and booths. Nice recorded music, not too loud for conversations. Captioned big screen sports. I plan to order the Easter dinner as carryout.

Hughleys has some tasty fried chicken, just the right amount of spice. The meat is nice and juicy when you tear it apart as well, always a plus their corn bread is moist with just right amount of sweetness. Now the bad part, the Mac and cheese was a let down, the taste was good but it wasn’t hot so the cheese was clumpy unsatisfying. The mash potatoes were less than stellar, not sure if it’s because I didn’t want gravy and just some butter or what but they just didn’t seem on point. Overall we still love the food and recommend you stop in

Hughley’s is the best southern food I’ve had on the island. The fried catfish po boy was phenomenal. The catfish was fried perfectly, not too battered that it lost its flavor, and the remoulade on top gave it a really great tangy finish. The mashed potatoes and gravy were seasoned really well, as were the wavy French fries. The sandwich also came with a drink(a pleasant surprise), and you know it had to be sweet tea. Just like I remember from growing up in Tennessee. I’ll definitely be back to try the chicken and waffles.

I ordered fried catfish. Very little catfish flavor in the fish, I would put my fried catfish up against Hughley’s any day.

Very good. Being from the south it brought back some flavors I haven’t had in a while. It was kind of expensive but well worth it. I wasn’t a fan of the red beans and rice though.

We were looking for some southern comfort food and we definitely found it .. this place even had SEC football playing on the TV’s in July… We got fried chicken red beans and rice and corn on the cob… The corn bread was actually a jiffy corn muffin base and bot traditional craklin or corn bread.

This is a great place to eat. I just moved here from Washingtin, DC and this is the only place on the island that sells soul food. Yes. You read that correct. They serve the food of my culture and it taste good. If you are visiting this is the place to check out. It’s not far from the swap meet either. Look that up too…you can get your souvenirs here and not pay all that money in Waikki or other places.
