Driving into Wharton I felt a different sense of ambiance. Everything felt more laid back – like a rural small town in the US. You don’t really get a lot of that in North Jersey. Any who, I was craving something to eat and happened to stumble upon this shop. It felt like a step back into history when I walked in. The owner was super friendly and explained to me how pasties came from the Cornish miners who immigrated here from England to mine. I initially only bought 2 but they were so good I went back to the store for 4 more since I live far. But, 1 is plenty for one person! Another thing to note is that the pastors are very shelf stable. You can get them frozen or ready cooked and the ready cooked I was able to leave overnight on my table and just reheat in the microwave in the morning and it still tasted great! Lastly, the pasties that were ready cooked were so hot and fresh you can tell they just came out the oven! Make sure to ask for the hot sauce if you’re like me and like spicy! I’ll definitely go back when I’m in the area again!

Never had a pastie before so I tried it. Awesome! What’s not to like, beef, onions, potatoes… Like a double sized empanada that’s baked, not fries and with a buttery dough. A pastie and soda ran me $8.95 and I’m full.

I simply love their sausage or chicken pasties. I’m from Europe as well as have visited England several times and just miss that spot on, delicious taste and quality here in NJ.

Stuffed cabbage and pasties are great. Kind of place you can count on for homemade food with quality ingredients. Staff are always nice and prices are reasonable considering high quality of products they sell. Stop by and see why they’ve been here for decades.

Entering Rocky’s Pasties is like taking a step back in time. This small, family owned shop creates delicious pasties (Beef, Sausage and Chicken and No Onion). You can have a fresh (hot) baked pasty or frozen as well as Small or Large. A shop history/reheating direction sheet is available on the counter too. These hand held meat, potato and onion turnovers with a golden crust are quite filling and could be a complete dinner with the addition of a side salad. They also make their own kielbasa and there are a few dessert offerings as well such as Cheesecake, Cream Puffs and Kolachi (poppy seed, walnut, prune and apricot). The family counter staff is friendly and helpful and prices are reasonable. You do have to climb a few stairs from the sidewalk and again up to the front door to get to the shop and there is no handicapped ramp for those with mobility issues. Parking is free and on the street.

Hopefully still fantastic as ever. Little history: I ate Rocky’s Pasties since mid 1950″s till I left the state in the late 90’s and I still savor their deliciousness. When I was younger would walk down from the top of Mine Hill to just buy 2 and eat them both on the front step. As I grew older and worked for the local phone co. I would have Rocky’s Pasties at least twice a week, some times to late he would be sold out. That led to a quest to find them in any local business that may have any left. If only they had shipping or knew business near Wharton that would pick up and ship. Most all my friends there have since passed or left the area. The delicious taste of them will stay with me till it’s time to pass. Thank You for the great memory.

These things are so good, i buy some extra frozen ones just to keep at home. I prefer the chicken the best, but the sausage and the beef pasties are great! This is a family owned business and they are very nice! The older man has no problem explaining to you how they make it and what cuts of the meat they use, including seasonings for allergic purposes. It’s great to go to an establishment where they TRULY make the food 100% there using all natural ingredients. I’m also a very “saucy” guy and need to put sauce on EVERYTHING. But with these pasties, they are so flavorful and moist on the inside, i don’t need any sauce! Great product and great service which is why I keep coming back!
