We used to go to the cafe for sweets and coffee before they moved to the new location diagonally across from where they were on Railey Hill near Burger Bach. The new location is in the Village Marketplace with the Food Lion. It occupies part of what was once the Book Exchange. The food is good and well seasoned. I had the Woodlake Works (biscuits and gravy, topped with home fries, topped with chicken tenders and 2 eggs over easy. Also had their Café Bombon (think Americanized Vietnamese coffee over ice – and 2 of us had 3 of them). We liked their coffee. Two changes to my dish I would like to see: More fat on their home fries (they’re oven roasted and don’t seem fried in enough fat/oil/drippings). and cook the tenders whole if possible instead of cut up. Makes the tenders less dry. The sticky pecan bun was nice! My kids had a good time with their meal. I’m really liking this iteration of their shop over the old one with the full service food. There’s a good spot to keep the kids busy waiting for their food. Welcome back!

We have tried the Sunday Brunch a few weeks with friends and will keep going back. The service and food are fantastic! They serve breakfast and lunch and make their breads and dessert in-house. They have a growing variety of gluten free breads, scones and desserts! We enjoy the variety of options on the menu and love the friendly service!

Great menu of breakfast items and coffee choices. Food was good and the coffees were outstanding. Prices were fair and the atmosphere was chill. The only knock is the waiting times were a bit slow. Overall good experience and I will definitely be returning.

This place is great. We came here for the 1st time today to try their breakfast. I also got a fresh Chai tea and a refresher drink. Food was good. The gentleman (he could be the owner) greeted us as soon we walked inside. He was accommodating throughout the meal. They have homemade fudge, cookies & other desserts. We will certainly be back soon.

The food is always tasty and fresh. The staff is always very friendly and service is great. Love their coffees! The food has cute names of places from around the area. Their sweets are all delicious too (chocolate muffins especially).

Cute little coffee and breakfast shop (also has other meals) with local handmade crafts and gifts with books in the back. Friendly staff greeted us as soon as we walked in and provided quick service. Food was amazing and we will be back soon to support this local business.

My partner and I stopped by to grab breakfast to-go and we had an amazing experience. I have a dairy allergy and they were super accommodating and even had non-dairy whipped cream for my coffee. Everyone was friendly and kind and I hope to return again soon.

I’ve only had a couple of espresso-based coffees here, but they were very good — not what my coal-mining ancestors would have been accustomed to. The sweets look good, but I can’t testify yet. The menu has basic breakfast and lunch options, most of which are meat-centric. There is inside seating that is comfortable enough, but nothing outside. The decor is a bit bland, especially with an evocatively named Coal Mine Coffee. I’ll be stopping by again when I’m in the neighborhood.

We loved Coal Mine at its previous location and panicked when we realized it wasn’t there one day! Luckily we found the new location and have been coming in weekly since. The customer service, specialty coffee drinks and Cupertino’s bagels are second to none. Don’t sleep on this one!

Very friendly and inviting staff! They made sure to make me feel as comfortable as possible and were straightforward and helpful even when they were out of certain menu choices. I highly recommend trying them out, the coffee is great and you have to try their turkey sausage
