The Battleground Taproom and Mexican Kitchen specializes in traditional Mexican food — street tacos, churros, pozole, tamales, mole, empanadas, and other dishes representative of several regions of Mexico. This is not TexMex — every tortilla is handmade to order, the salsas made fresh daily. We also have a full bar serving a variety of cocktails and house margaritas and our own craft beer called Drink Your Values (DYV). DYV sales go to support organizations that are working on social, racial, and economic justice. Amazing Mexican food, cocktails, and craft beer.

Food and service are EXCELLENT. HOWEVER, we were there at 6p on a Thursday and it was INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to hear each other. They really need to install some sound absorbing ceiling tiles or something. And a word to the wise … just a heads up that no matter how many people are in your party, they will only cash out a MAXIMUM of 4 checks per party. There were 9 of us in the party that night, and only 2 of those would normally be on a check together. Would really have been good to know that ahead of time!!! I know that is common in some large cities, but it’s definitely not the norm around here!!!

We sought this place out after seeing someone wear their Social Justice Beer Project t-shirt at an Akron brewery, and we were not disappointed! They encourage patrons to “drink their values” by making a donation to a community philanthropy with every beer purchased. Our server was fantastic, helping us make menu selections that suit our tastes, and is a student at Kent State majoring in fashion, minoring in communication. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxed. While we don’t find ourselves in Kent very often, we won’t visit again without planning a stop to Battleground Taproom!

Place is great. Awesome atmosphere. Really cool concept with some of their menu items. Love the interesting elements of serving insects with your tequila. The tacos are really good. Shrimp and Fish were my favorite. The Corn Elote was one of the best I’ve had. Really great stuff here.

Another one of those hipster Mexican places. Very “white” Mexican food (very bland, everything tasted as if it was missing spices) The rice had no flavor. There is no chips and salsa brought to the table, you have to pay for it.

So much fun! My friend and I came for the margarita class and stayed for dinner. Between the two of us we had four different tacos, two salsas and a guacamole. The verde salsa is AMAZING! All of the margaritas we made/drank were really yummy. I really love that they don’t use the premade margarita mixes, everything they use in their food or drink is the real thing.
