Finally tried the food here and it was really good. We ordered the fried Whiting and fried chicken platter. I enjoyed the mac and cheese, fried chicken, candied yams. My husband loved everything including the cornbread. My kids liked the basil corn. We did receive utensils even though we didn’t ask lol….we’ll definitely be back!

Awesome Mac n cheese and rice. I’m not a fan of either, but my husband ordered them from down home, and I had a taste. Now this is the only place I will eat Mac n cheese from. Also the cornbread is fantastic!! I also got sides catered from them for my Xmas family dinner. They were very accommodating with time I wanted food. The food was fresh and delicious and there was plenty.

I was searching for another soul food restaurant called Mr. G’s, but this restaurant was in that location. Unfortunately, I can only give this restaurant a two star rating for the following reasons:

The food here is absolutely amazing!! The MAC and Cheese, yams, fried chicken, BBQ chicken, basil corn, everything is delicious! This restaurant produces meals that are fresh and tastes home cooked. Not like other restaurants that give you that processed food and pre-cooked frozen non sense. I’ve also used them to cater my gender reveal party. All of my guests were impressed with how great the food was. I look forward to using them again for my next event. I recommend everyone giving them a try. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed and you’ll make it a point to eat there more often!

This was our first time ordering and the mac n cheese was tasty, catfish nuggets tasted good as well and the fried chicken was nice and hot. We did not care for the potato salad being warm and over powering with vinegar as well as the collard greens not tasty at all. And not so happy that the prices were higher then what was printed on the menu. A little over priced for 3 chicken wings and catfish nuggets!

I read the reviews before I came in and decided to try it myself and not prejudge. Total food cost was over 40 dollars which was not an issue if the food was good and flavorful. Starters they only had a little bit of dirty rice left and I couldn’t get a full family meal container. Keep in mind because of this they gave me fries at no cost. The rice had no flavor and seemed to be ground beef and white rice second I wanted to try everything on menu so I got the whiting, fried chicken, bbq chicken and Cajun shrimp. None had any flavor. All the coating on fried whiting and fried chicken and shrimp all seem to be the same…. everything tasted bland no salt no flavor. Bbq chicken was small And had no flavor. Iv had deltas food and it was great this not so much. No one forced me to buy anything I needed to judge and try it myself, I don’t really care about a refund I just won’t be back I hope the owners read this and change up menu because it’s over priced and again being fresh is not the reason why unless you killing chicken in the back and catching the fish everyday. I really hope this helps if anyone is looking for some good southern food. This place is not it. Thanks

Truly a taste of the South. The servings were excellent sizes the prices are not high because the quality is. The Mac &Cheese is so creamy and taste GREAT – the whiting, the chicken – OMG. The Chicken tasted just like it used to when I was a kid, this is a great food place, don’t miss it!!!

I’ve tried their food twice. And the only thing I wasn’t fond of was the baked BBQ chicken. Not as juicy and flavorable. ANYHOW I LOVE!! the Mac n cheese, Greens, cornbread, fried catfish nuggets, Cajun shrimp. And will go again.

Lets just start off I wouldn’t even give this restaurant one star…the customer service & food is bland. I wanted yams and Mac & cheese but they ran out so I ordered Collard greens and potato salad.. meanwhile the lady doesn’t tell me she ran out of Collard greens till last minute AND then when I get home I realized I didn’t get the shrimp I paid for…anyway I wasted $50 of my hard earned money.. amazing taste or majestic is where its at.

Just moved into North Brunswick and I always search for good black owned soul food restaurants. I used to live in East Windsor and frequented Thomasena’s in Trenton but I had to stop because they were too far from me and there was always something happening to my disliking. Closing early, food running out. It just was too much out of the way to take risks. Even tried Ila Mae’s but I was so disappointed with the food and it took them so long just to make it I never went back! My dad sent a text saying hey there’s a place in franklin park called Down Home. I said will let me give it a try! I ordered the 3 piece fried chicken dark meat dinner with greens Mac n cheese and the cornbread. Lord have mercy I was pleased to say the least lol. Chicken was perfectly seasoned. So was the Mac n cheese and greens! It was so filling I just knew I had to put the rest away for later lol. I wish that I ordered more cornbread to go. That was the best outside cornbread I’ve ever had from anyone! It was moist, not too sweet but sweet enough. Just done right! You don’t even need to put butter on it! My dad ordered the whiting and he wished he had gotten more fish lol! He ordered a side of catfish bites which were surprisingly huge lol and tasty! I think I found my new soul food spot! And it was only a 10 min ride which is great!
