Jake’s Steaks was started by a Philly native who has a goal to provide the best-tasting cheesesteaks in or out of Philadelphia. It is a good sign when half the people at Jake’s Steaks joint are from Philly. For the unenlightened, a cheesesteak consists of a heap of shredded beef and onion, tossed on a griddle, piled onto a uniquely chewy but tender Amoroso roll imported from Philadelphia, and topped with Cheese Whiz, which melts into the sandwich.
Jake’s is tucked away on a residential block, but that doesn’t stop local from popping in for a beer at the eight-seat bar or grabbing a table in the small but bright space, complete with a wallpapered photo of Philly’s boathouse row on the Schuylkill River.
Eagles fans pack this compact sports bar & cheesesteak joint for food, beers & football on the TV. Based on 484 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.3 stars. Price $

My buffalo chicken sub is absolutely drenched in hot sauce. Its sogging wet, literally. So not only was it a $17 sub but its soggy and too hot to enjoy. Its decent otherwise and tastes better than it looks but like cmon you aint gotta drench it

Needed a close to the hotel place to eat after walking all day around the city! This place was easy to find. Hard to know how to order when you walk in. But you must order at the counter as they don’t have servers. The chicken tenders were very good and they gave us so many! The pizza sandwich was also good! Garlic fries were full of flavor. the motz sticks were also good but the sauce lacked flavor. Over all a good choice for a quickly dinner!

The cheesesteak was great! The 3 star rating is partly cause of service. We came on a Wednesday night and there weren’t many people there but food still took almost 45 minutes. Also the fries, wings and burger was not good.

Finally got a chance to experience Jake’s steaks in person. Being originally from Philly and currently living in Atlanta, I heard about this place and had to try it. The secret to a good Philly cheese steak is the roll and they do have the right Amoroso rolls. The restaurant itself is smaller than I thought it would be but there is outside seating and I heard that during an Eagles game this is the place to be. My only gripe is that they don’t have a lot of Temple University merchandise on the wall. You have to check this place out!

Great local spot for a real Philly style cheesesteak. Giving the food 5 stars because it’s exactly what I expect to get when I come here – a cheesesteak with that soft Philly bread, fries, a draft beer, and whatever game is on the TV.

Good spot for sandwiches and other bar food items. We stopped by on two nights out of the four nights we spent in San Francisco. Basically 5 minutes from our hotel. Food was great and you definitely have to get cheese whiz if you love cheese. We ordered sandwiches- the GMO, the mushroom cheesesteak, the spinach and mushroom, and an original cheesesteak. We also ordered chicken tenders, waffle fries, philly steak fries, wings, and jalapeno poppers. Everything was great and will continue to be a spot we stop by when back in San Francisco. Picture below is from our 2nd order. Stopped by again twice in December and still as delicious. Below are the pics of the 2nd trip lol.

Was okay. I ordered ahead for pickup. Compared to other Cheesesteaks in the city it’s not one I’d return for. Lacking a lot of flavor, soggy bread yet somehow dry meat. Maybe it’s because it was the end of the day but still no excuse.

This is a genuine Philly cheesesteak only 3 times more expensive. Sides are good. Rolls are authentic philly rolls like Amarosos. Just prohibitively expensive……parking is pretty simple on the side streets. The guys working are from Jersey not philly. Plenty of Eagles chochky they even have a row boat from boathouse row hanging from the ceiling. A true taste of home all the way in San Francisco. The food will take you home the bill brings you right back though

Great sports bar in San Francisco, one of the best philly cheesesteak I ever had. Prices are fair, and the place is great. If you’re a Philadelphia Eagles fan, this place is a must-go (actually any football fan, except for Cowboys for obvious reasons).
