Extremely authentic Japanese food run by a friendly Japanese family. The only truly authentic sushi in Sioux Falls that actually has a sushi chef from Japan. The other pseudo Japanese restaurant in town cannot even compare to this place. If you love Japanese food and are in Sioux Falls this place is a must try. Portions are also very generous for a Japanese restaurant. Simply the best Japanese food for thousands of miles!

Listen… I love sushi. I’ve been to Japan, I’ve even been fortunate to have omakase sushi in the old Tsukiji fish market. I’ve also tried several sushi places in the US. This is, hands down, the best nigiri I have had outside of Japan. I’d even argue it’s better than some sushi I’ve had IN Japan!

Always excellent! The salad…stop it, so good. Shumai? Yes, every time. It’s the best I’ve tried anywhere. All the sushi is great. The salmon tonight, melted in my mouth. Delish!

Dumpling appetizers was great. Rolls were also very tasty. Such a cool atmosphere but there is limited seating, so go early.

This place is great! Will definitely be coming back to try more sushi! Our favorites were the special cucumber which is an appetizer and the spider roll first and second photo! We also had the Isobe which is an appetizer too third photo. I was not a fan of but my husband said it was ok.

We were there after spending time at the Falls and was craving for sushi. We googled sushi places closest to the downtown area. And there you have it! Sushi Masa on Phillips Ave, downtown. The place was like Sioux Falls best kept secret as it was this small restaurant at the corner. It was pretty small, but we could see the patrons really enjoying their meals. There was a bit of a wait. But we hanged in there and it was worth the wait. The one lone waiter was Phil and he flipped a table for us right away. We had a booth seating that was intimate for couples. We waited awhile and we noticed people were waiting for their orders to go. But that didn’t stop us from enjoying our evening. The waiter Phil came up to wait on us and he even showed us and explained to us the several different Sakes to choose from. The best Sake was the most expensive one. The food was out of this world!! It’s like an out of this world experience. The presentation was excellent, the Sashimi was fresh, the servers were always coming around to offer us more water. The miso soup is nothing we’ve tasted before. It had onions & potatoes. The House dressing on our salad was the best I’ve tasted. They even allow us to bring some home. Phil was so accommodating, he even took the time to explain to us about our food and asked us how are stay was in Sioux Falls so far. He even recommended a few places for us to explore later. We’re from out of the area. So that was nice and he took the extra mile to do that for us. And we complimented the Chef Fumi for his creation, and presentation of our meal. You know when you have to wait a little longer, it is done with passion & integrity. Thank you Chef Fumi & Phil and the staff there. We will be back when we’re in town again.

Despite it’s name, Sushi Masa isn’t just a sushi restaurant. It actually has a good selection of Asian food aside from sushi.

Food was good. The server was very friendly. However the food came about 1 hour after being seated and already ate our appetizer.

Loved the Dynamite Hand Roll (mixed seafood with mayo). The shrimp tempura and gyoza were tasty.
