Stopped by for lunch today. Asked for traditional Japanese style cup of hot tea, but waiter said “no hot tea” as the tea maker was broken. Asked for sushi menu, but waiter said “no sushi” as they don’t serve any sushi. Never seen a Japanese restaurant without tea or sushi. Tried to order an appetizer from the appetizer list on their menu, but was told “no appetizers today.” Sooooo, ordered meal plate of chichen/shrimp/mushrooms with carrots and fried rice. Food plate was OK in quality and quantity (photo) except for the soup that came with the meal; watery, very heavily salty, unedible. I want to see this Japanese restaurant in Galax succeed, but…

The food and the people where good. I was very disappointed to get up to pay to find out it cost me more because I was using a credit card. There are some cost of doing business you need to build into your pricing.

Definitely hit or miss. Gotta find the right cook. I’ve been there during lunch hours or just after lunch hours during the week and was actually satisfied with this place but weeknights and weekends not so much. Definitely has/had potential.

I was recently in Galax for a few days and had lunch at Kyoto one day. The staff was very friendly, the prices were reasonable, and the food was better than expected for a restaurant in the area. The food came out very quickly. I appreciated the options for the vegetable sides since I have special dietary needs. I would definitely return.

This is the only Japanese restaurant in the area. It is heartbreakingly Clear that this place is struggling to keep the doors open… so unfortunate because it has a lot of potential. Needs an overall update – flooring, lighting, decor, menus. The food is very very good (that’s the only reason it gets any stars at all) however the portions have gotten smaller in just a 6 month time span.

The food was excellent. The waiter was extremely rude. Seemed angry. Kept just tossing or throwing things on our table. The restaurants needs an update. It’s somewhat outdated and dirty. When we checked out the cashier added an extra fee for processing a debit card. We won’t be back
