Il Leone is located in Peaks Island, you take a ferry from Portland and you will find this amazing wood fired pizza. The oven and seating are outdoors, under huge trees, allowing for a great shaded area. The staff was super nice and they quickly take your order. I wish there was a bit more tables to sit and not so much machinery and piles of dirt covered by tarps around, but they could have been working on something.

A pizza run to Il Leone is a peak Portland experience. Catch the ferry on a summer evening, amble down to the Lion’s Club green. What you find there is pretty perfect: the pizza oven roaring behind a cluster of petite picnic tables, the cafe lights twinkling above, the glow of the sun and the water just beyond the tree-line.

Let’s get to it. I will NEVER eat there again. After getting and eating my Pizza I sat back to watch the guys cooking. There were 3. Two guys were pretty good. But the Third, dressed I brown (the others were in blue) had a hat on. He takes his hat off, runs his fingers thru his hair, puts hat back on. Next, he wipes his face, including his nose. Then, without washing or cleaning his hands he reaches in, cuts dough, spreads it out and handles all the ingredients then wipes his pants. The most disgusting thing I’ve seen. Then he dies it all over again. I grabbed a quick pic the second time. We left right away and told some folks coming in to watch him before ordering. To bad because the pizza was great but then it didn’t.

This is exceptional pizza. My God, it’s delicious. It will haunt me until I have it again. It takes a while and my kids hated it (I died a little when they asked for ranch) but it’s truly inspired, flavorful, delicious, simple pizza. My kids love dominoes, despite my best efforts. Great location and atmosphere too.

literally hands down the best pizza in portland! you get to enjoy the ferry ride on your way over to peaks island. you can explore the island/swim then walk over to Il Leone and get the best. pizza. ever. it’s amazing and i actually have gone multiple times in one week before. worth the hype. worth the trip! also the vibes are immaculate- definitely BYOB. it makes it a cute little date night

Delicious pizza! Size of a paper plate and made fast! One pizza is enough for one person. Friendly and helpful service. Highly recommend going later in the evening to nosh and then watch the sun set behind the city. Plenty of seating and parking available. Prices on the high end but worth it for the location and experience.

I love pizza from wood-fired ovens. Imagine my surprise at finding one of the best pies I’ve ever had on an island only reachable by ferry!! After a bike ride around the island, I enjoyed a pizza with garlic scapes, basil, and fresh mozzarella. HIGHLY recommend!

Absolutely one of the best pizzas I have ever had -actually I was with a group so we tried 4 different versions -each spectacular! What makes them stand out is the pie dough on the wood fired oven —so light yet it has a texture that makes all the fresh ingredients stand out. If it’s on the menu you must try the L’Estate with cherry tomatoes and fresh basil it’s delicious and a special treat is the pizza with fresh lobster -better than a lobster roll
