My sister and I was visiting and I Googled things to do in Baltimore (mind you, it was a Monday night) they advertised a “jam session” and the food looked good and reasonably priced on site and when we got there, the food was spectacular! Well we got there and stayed 4 hours. The “jam session” was new for us because we thought the band would just be playing. NO MA’AM NO SIR! Patrons can jam too! Its like karaoke but with a REAL band! We were even asked to sing and I blew my chances to be a Star . Singing with the bad through my off. I guess I am tone deaf. Anywho, we ended up going again on Wednesday because everything was phenomenal and they were supposed to have $1 wings and buy 1 get 1 drink for happy hour. My friend lives in Baltimore and she never heard of it so she was our plus 1. Well, there server was the only fail. She had to be new ( I hope she was because she was terrible). What was great is the happy hour only featured Black own liquor! I know isn’t that amazing? I never knew there were so many Black owned liquor companies and Next Phaze had them on location! I had Lumiere Vodka that was powerful and my sis has Uncle Nearest Burboun she enjoyed. What you have to tried (and you will love) is the Cornbread Pudding! I never even heard of it but Lord have mercy it was fire!

Being relatively new here to the city, I was initially skeptical of this place. After a few recommendations- and having met some of the wonderful staff- I decided to give it a go. I must say- DELICIOUS. I haven’t found too many spots in the city that make not only tasty fried chicken, but chicken that’s fried right THE FIRST TIME, no need to double back to the fryer. The chicken tenders? HOMEMADE! I most certainly wasn’t expecting that. And the catfish, it’s almost as big as one of my forearm.

Thank you for helping us find this Groupon!! I am what my GF calls. ” fried chicken connoisseur ” and I have to give this an A++. The chicken (which I got withiut sauce) was perfectly fried. Crispy as hell on the outside and not dried up inside. Spiced like you exoect a Southern Fried Chicken would be! The crab cake had large pieces of crab in it, was spiced perfectly and had a perfectly flavored sauce with it.

The food here is outstanding!! I’ve been here twice in the same week and both times were absolutely fabulous. The service was great and I really have no complaints. I got the catfish platter with macaroni and cheese and string beans as well as the pineapple upside down cake (huge!). The portions are great and the catfish was cooked so delicately. The Mac and cheese was truly spectacular (and I’m a picky eater too). The first time I came I got a crab cake with French fries. Just SO good!! It’s a cozy space with live events every week. LOVE that it’s black owned, and in a convenient location for those who take public transit or are visiting the city. I can’t recommend them enough!! Please visit. They do have an accessible entrance but parking is limited besides other parking garages or street parking nearby. Prices are not cheap but worth it!

This spot is everything. I’ve been twice! Love, loved, loved my garlic parm wing platter with Mac and cheese (excellent) and green beans (seasoned so well they taste like home). I wanted to peek in the kitchen and say hi the food was so good. Had an unexpected 2nd opportunity to have lunch there and my crispy chicken sandwich and fries was awesome! This is NOT a fast food lunch and I’m good with waiting for the level of excellence that I tasted here! Oh and you can have a beer, cooler, grown up drink with your lunch. They get an extra 5 stars just for that special treat! Can’t wait to go back. Heard the southern fried chicken was a fave AND happy hour too!

Next Phaze Cafe exceeded all my expectations. I cannot remember the last time I was at a restaurant where they took such pride in their food that the taste, quality, and presentation of the food was absolutely perfect. My party ordered the Catfish Platter, the Caesar Salad with Chicken, the Shrimp Appetizer with French Fries, and some Sweet Potato Pie. All the ingredients were extremely fresh, and the Next Phaze Cafe certainly knows how to work a fryer. The fried items were crispy without being greasy, seasoned very well, and cooked to perfect doneness. The catfish literally melted in my mouth once I crunched through the crispy coating. The collard greens were some of the bests I have ever had. They were extremely tasty and tender without being drowned in liquid. And the macaroni and cheese was to die for. Definitely one of the best macaroni and cheese I have ever had. The creaminess with a variance in textures was lighting up my taste buds. Top it off with some of the moistest cornbread I have ever devoured. The serving portions were perfectly sized, and the high quality of the food definitely deserved the price paid. Of course, there was no way I was going to pass up the sweet potato pie as I am a pie guy, and sweet potato ranks in my top three best type of pies. Three decades ago, I had experienced the best sweet potato pie I have ever had in a soul food place located in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. For three decades, I have searched for a sweet potato pie to match or exceed that one, but I had all about given up hope. Well, my patience and resolution were rewarded with the Next Phaze Cafe’s Sweet Potato Pie. I don’t know if I was experiencing the perfection of heaven or the temptation of the devil, but either way their sweet potato pie was ecstasy dancing across my tongue. Perfect sweetness, perfect spice, perfect crust, perfect sweet potato taste, perfect texture, perfect creaminess. Just perfect. No better way to have finished the meal. Next Phaze Cafe is a real special diamond of a treasure in Baltimore. If you are an out-of-towner visiting Baltimore like me, I highly recommend you take the opportunity to visit this special place and enjoy what they have to offer.
