So my parents moved across the river after flooding and losing everything as so many did. They happened upon this place while out driving last night. They ate there last night and wanted to take the kids today. It’s in an old building that once was a brothel in historic Plaquemine. Let me get this out of the way now—service was great!! Sweet and unsweetened tea was very fresh. I had half a po-boy and a cup of soup. When they brought it out, I was sure they forgot to cut my poboy in half. I guess their “half” is just massive. Bread was delicious, shrimp cooked perfectly. Soup was crab and corn bisque. It was also very good. A little heavy on the corn, and it’s definitely got a kick to it, but it’s very good. Tasted the gumbo too and it was good. Dark roux. We had some onion rings as an appetizer and they are delicious! My mom went on and on about the stuffed crabs, so I just had to order one to try it. They do have a stuffed crab dinner/lunch thing you can get but it’s not on menu–you have to ask for it. Stuffed crabs were delicious. They are FULL (and I mean FULL) of crawfish tails and whole shrimp. I’ve never had crabs with that in them, but they sure are tasty. I would highly recommend Guidry’S. Sammy’s in BR is my favorite seafood place, but this would be a very close second. Especially nice for not having to wait in the long lines at Sammy’s. I’ve heard they have AYCE boiled shrimp on Wednesdays. I will check that out and let y’all know how that goes. Give this place a try. Everything was very good. I ended up stealing my sister’s other stuffed crab and loading that up with the bisque I had left and 3/4’s of that “half” a shrimp poboy. I’ve already eaten it again tonight and still have a crab and that poboy left for tomorrow. Oh, the hush puppies are of a sweet variety. I really enjoyed them as well. It’s well worth the drive across the river to find a new place that has some character and historic. I’m also told it has a few ghosts. 😉

The environment is nice. I love historical buildings and Plaquemine is famous for them. The server was extremely fast and polite. I had the Bayou Chicken which is topped with Crawfish Etouffe. Unfortunately, the roux was way too dark for a any Etouffe, the chicken was rubbery like it was undercooked a bit and the whole plate had no seasoning to it. It might’ve just been a bad night.

Always enjoyed going here….too bad the people in Plaquemine would not support him any more. People in Plaquemine say they wish that had more places to eat but everyone wants something for nothing!! Now he has closed down for good. This town is a shell of what it used to be. It’s a microcosm of Louisiana….slowly dying because of our stupidity!
