Pretty cool place, not your typical restaurant vibe but that’s okay. Vast menu but many items were unavailable, completely understandable as they source food locally. Pork loin sandwich was pretty good. Duck fat fries are home fries and you can absolutely taste the duck fat unlike many other restaurants. A little pricey but that’s the trade off for having locally sourced ingredients. Beer on tap here as well.

This little piece of heaven is delightful and offers the best burgers and beers. After kayaking two plus hours on the Haw River, we needed food. Luckily Saxapahaw General Store was nearby and opened. Pulling into the parking lot, we saw majority of the outdoor seating occupied which is always a good sign. Walking in, we were treated to a quaint country store offering homemade goodies and fresh vegetables. It was bustling with shoppers, bikers, and day travelers all wanting some delicious food. As we perused the menu, we noticed the entire back wall were refrigerators containing local beers. While our orders of burgers and home fries were prepared, we explored the store but mostly the alcohol section. We mentally picked out what we wanted then found a table to wait for our food. When the burgers arrived they were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Served alongside were heaping portions of home fries fried to golden brown perfection. When visiting Saxapahaw, definitely make time to have a meal at the General Store. You won’t regret it.

Words can’t even describe how amazing this place is. We stayed at an Airbnb across town while passing through and was recommended to stop here. The vibe is amazing, the products are fantastic, the food… UNBELIEVABLE. I got the duck jam burger and my husband got the emu fan filet, we enjoyed it SO much we came back again for lunch before heading on the road and got the banh-mi and my husband got the scallop tacos. The beer selection is astounding, organic dry foods available, fresh produce, sweet bakery, and brews on tap.

Went there for dinner. I got the Buffalo burger and my wife got the duck jam burger on a bed of rice. Both were absolutely mouthwatering. The sauce and cheese paired with each meat deliciously. The meat is tender. Got a side of house fries which were crispy and tasty. The general store has tons of soda, beer, and snack options as well

Went there yesterday for the first time. I found it while searching “Best country stores” in Google, looking for a new place to go this weekend, after the great positive experience we had last week in the ‘Daily Basket”, Germanton. So this place showed up in my search results, and we did the one hour drive from Thomasville. Glad we did! The store itself is a jewel, the people working there is very attentive, helpful and patient. And the food they served to us tasted like the best of the best. You order/pay the food in the main counter by the doors (be aware that there is one IN door and one OUT door, shamefully for me, I only noticed that AFTER leaving), they pick your name and for the next 25-30 minutes, you wander thru the store, while picking beverages and any other items you want to buy, be sure to pay for them before the food is ready. About that time, a staff guy will come out of the kitchen with the plates you ordered, and he will ask you where you want to seat. Once you say where, he will take all the plates, and the silverware, to the table you select, which in our case, was outside, of course. Notice that: the dishes they serve the food on, are/or feel like real ceramic objects, the silverware is good old Stainless Steel, and the – optional of course – glass for the beer is real glass.

I like this place. Everyone is so nice and they seem like they genuinely care about me. I live 3 miles away so I come here a lot for convenience but at this point I mainly come for the beautiful friendly staff and everything they have to offer. The beer selection is so crazy that it’s hard to not be drunk right after you leave this place, but that’s why I keep a full bottle of Pedialyte in my cooler, to combat the effects.

This is a must add to your day trips in search of good food! This little general store that calls itself “the only 5 star General store” is definitely worthy of 5 stars. It’s like a mini whole foods market with local produce, an impressive amount of beer to choose from and last but not least the food with outdoor seating area! I have to go back to try so many things in their menu! Definitely 5 stars for this establishment, don’t miss this hidden gem in North Carolina!
