Normally, the chicken here is pretty great. So I decided to order the four-piece (original, legs) which was a mistake. The chicken was dark in color (perhaps from old oil?) which might not seem like it in the bright light of my kitchen (in the picture below) but it was much darker in person and smaller than what I’ve had previously bought. It looked old and not as fresh. When I ate it, the breaded skin was thin and flaky in a bad way while the chicken tasted a bit rubbery and unseasoned.

Ridiculous. I go in just now and stand at the corner waiting to order, only to be ignored by the two girls arguing in Spanish with the cook in the back. There were 5 other people behind me waiting to order too. I stood there 7 minutes without so much as a “I’ll be right with you sir,” or even a glance in my direction. I walked out. I’ve never seen such poor service in Washington before. I just moved back here from Texas where I consistently experienced service like that. I never expected to experience that outside of Texas.

The chicken actually tastes quite good and juicy when fresh. The Ezell’s recipe overall is delicious. However, 3 out of 5 times, the chicken in this location is just sitting under a heat lamp, which makes it rubbery and dry. So, it’s kind of a gamble – 30-40% of the time, the food tastes good; otherwise you just paid for dry rubber chicken.

I’ve been getting the half pound original combo for years at this location and it has never dissappointed me. The chicken strips are the only way to go. My order always comes out fresh and quick. Would definitely recommend this location to everyone in the area.

I’ve eaten at a couple Ezell’s around the greater Seattle area now and my experience has been pretty consistent. The staff are super friendly and jovial, and the food is a good value and portion size, but probably could be a bit better quality. The sides are the standouts here, especially the cajun fries, the rolls, and the mashed potatoes. The chicken tenders tend to be kind of dry but for the size and quantity you get for the price I can’t be too harsh over that. Thankfully the regular bone-in pieces of chicken are more moist, so this problem seems to be isolated to the tenders. Dipping sauces are key to making the tenders much better (I love the spicy tenders + ranch combo myself). The rolls are great palette cleanser for the spicy stuff, the spice used is a slower burn with lots of paprika, a very dry peppery flavor, but is quite nice. Pairs great with a nice flavorful, sweet drink. If there is only one thing I could recommend changing, it would be to try and get the tenders to be more moist. Overall if I’m wanting something really filling for a very reasonable price, I dig this place. It’s one of my faves. I’ll keep coming back for the generous portions and sides for sure!
