On a vacation back East, my brother introduced us to Detroit Style pizza. We loved it and looked into finding a restaurant that serves it here in the Phoenix area. We discovered this particular restaurant – The Rec – and loved it just as much! We ordered a medium pizza half sausage, half pepperoni. They use fresh mozzarella and the crust was crispy on the outside and infused with flavor. We also ordered Buffalo wings (bone in). They were delicious as well and had a slightly smoked flavor to them from also being grilled. We were very happy with our meal and will return.

This place is AMAZING!! The Detroit-style pizza is unique with the sauce on top and has intense, delicious flavors! This was our second visit and my husband had The Miggy and it was delicious! The wings are also top-notch and delicious; we had a smoky tangy sauce that left us wanting more!

More of a question for the owner/management. I just got your pizza for the first time (take out). When ordering do you have to imply you want the sauce added? Got this for the kids to try as I grew up on Detroit style pizza and with out any sauce they (and i) weren’t a fan.

Totally worth going out of your way for a small-town-feeling Midwest-like experience! We tried the Trammell pizza, fried pickles, and coney dog- all of which were amazing! The Detroit style pizza had the absolutely perfect texture on the crust and the toppings and sauces were plentiful. It’s not something you can find just anywhere in The Valley, and was totally worth the long drive for us! We’ll totally be back next time we are in the area.

I have travelled the U.S. extensively, often looking for good pizza and wings (courtesy of the Military), and The Rec is one of the few places that I can say does both extremely well. You don’t need to worry about lousy wings or pizza here. The wings can be tailored as needed normal or crispy, barely any sauce or swimming in it (my favorite). Apps and other menus

I saw ricotta and had to get The Barry pizza. It was my first time trying Detroit style pizza and I loved the crispy cheese crust! My friend ordered The Hockeytown and she enjoyed it too. She wanted to watch the Colorado Avalanche game and they were very nice to put it on for us. Check them out!

Calling ALL Michiganders! This restaurant is a home away from home. Pizza tastes just like Buddy’s! They’ve got Vernon’s, Faygo and Better Made chips. Next trip here, I’m ordering the coney dog! Highly recommended.

I’m from the Detroit suburbs and have always loved Detroit style pizza that goes back to the days of Buddy’s and Shields. These Michiganders have totally nailed it! Had a Hockeytown Pizza tonight and if I closed my eyes I could have sworn I was in the original Buddy’s Pizza. And the Bell’s Two- Hearted was another great Michigan touch.
