Arturo Diaz opened his firts Habanero’s Mexican Grill on June 2, 2008 and second Habanero’s at shea boulevard was opened on may 8, 2012. Arturo uses recipes from his mother and father, who ran taco stands in a small town in Jalisco, Mexico. At age 14 he came to the U.S. and has worked in restaurants ever since, starting as a dishwasher and eventually waiting tables and tending bar.
Habaneros at shea and Scottsdale rd is now ran by his wife Adriana and two children Emiliano and Arturo jr.
Virtually everything is made in-house, and the quality shows. The family is ultra-friendly, too, welcoming everyone with smiles and making sure all is well.

A little bit more pricey than any regular Mexican food joint. The food is good though and the service is attentive. My only criticism is some of the food doesn’t look presented well. My daughter got really sick the night after she ate shrimp tacos here. I can’t say definitively that that’s why, but maybe make sure that shrimp cooked really well.

Blink and you could miss this one…it wasn’t noticeable, but the food was good. My favorite part was the Flan—it was incredibly good! We enjoyed the food that we had, but thought it was a little pricier than we expected from the interior atmosphere.

One of our all time favorite places for tacos in the greater Phoenix area. Our family is regulars for Taco Tuesday but has also had Habaneros cater events. You can’t find a more friendly atmosphere with better food. Highly recommend

Stopped by for the first time today because the reviews were pretty good. I had the carne asada burrito with rice and guacamole. The meat was over cooked for my taste and a bit chewy. The rice and guacamole were good. The place looked clean and I did notice gloves were being used which makes me pretty happy! I will try the grilled chicken next time. Other than that fast friendly service. Hidden corner you can’t see the place from the street unless you are looking hard for it otherwise you might miss it!

I live in Phoenix, but work in the Scottsdale and Shea area and I’ve tried all of the Mexican places in this area, and by far the best food is here at Habaneros. The staff always greets me with a smile and I always receive great service, and the food is the best. I recommend their crispy shell tacos and red Menudo during the colder months. Tell them TIMO sent you.

We love living right down the street from Habaneros! One of my absolute favorite spots to eat. Everything we have tried here has been fantastic. Their carne asada is my favorite, and their chips, guac, & salsa is always so delicious. Sometimes when they are super busy they don’t address you right away, but with how busy they are they will still get to you as soon as they can, which is very understandable. Highly recommend trying them out!

No one greeted when I came in, had to go to the counter to ask for help. Then there’s no chips and salsa, you have to order if you want and they try to upsell you on getting the appetizers. I got the blackened shrimp salad. It’s decent, only thing is the lettuce is bagged. Shrimp was plentiful. No one ever came to check on me after my salad was served. Place wasn’t busy and they had 5 staff working! I sat for at least 30 minutes after I finished my salad waiting, finally they came, then brought me a to go box and the bill, which charged me 11.99 instead of the 10.75 on the menu. They also told me to go to the counter to pay. When I showed her the menu price, she looked up on the board behind her at the counter and tried to say the price is….I told her I’m paying the menu price because that’s what I ordered from..so she changed it. Wow! What a bunch of hooey! I definitely won’t be back, I can’t say it’s worth it with all the other good Mexican in the area that are “full service” and plenty of free chips and salsa!

This place was actually good. It didn’t seem like it would have authentic flavors, but it did. The food was great and came out really quick. The drinks though… A-1

I’ve lived in this area for 3 years and finally decided to try this place for lunch based on reviews. It is authentic Mexican and it’s done so well. I had the carne asada and blackened shrimp tacos. Wow. It’s such a big menu, I can’t wait to try more! The cook is behind the bar – so you can see your food being cooked fresh.
