For over 100 years, the Bevo Mill has been a world-famous* landmark in the heart of South City, most obviously known for its defining feature: a 60-foot tall windmill. Originally built by the Busch family as a rest stop between the storied Anheuser-Busch brewery and what is now known as Grant’s Farm, Das Bevo has been entertaining the area’s most interesting and over-the-top characters and their friends and family for decades. Today, after being reimagined and rehabilitated to it’s former glory, Das Bevo is once again bustling–this time as a public and private event space and Biergarten – with all of its original quirky charm still intact.
Sunday brunch with dark meats & German potatoes served in a historic windmill. Based on 709 reviews, the restaurant has received a rating of 4.1 stars. Price $$

Das Bevo is a unique and historic St. Louis treasure built by the Busch family themselves in 1917. I visited here for the first time for a beautiful June wedding. The venue was absolutely perfect for the couple’s needs. Complete with historic charm, gorgeous vaulted ceilings, breathtaking art, and Frankenstein-like details on the top level.

Arrived at opening and they were only seating outside that day. Had the schnitzel sandwich which was good and they opened up the building for us to roam through. It is a very interesting piece of history. Really enjoyed this place. They has a live band tuning up outside when we were leaving.

A historic windmill shaped building on a triangular plot. At the intersection of Morganford and Gravois. A German beer hall that serves excellent food. The intricate wooden frame work and statues decorating interior and exterior of the building. I would guess they could seat 100 people upstairs and 100 people downstairs. They serve bratwurst and sauerkraut, pretzels with beer cheese, schnitzel (breaded pork chops). They routinely play live local music on Thursday Friday Saturday and Sunday. They have an outdoor garden and amphitheatre for performances.

We went to Das Bevo for Oktoberfest last year, and the atmosphere everything I expected to get out of a German styled beer haus. The food was ok, and a little pricey for what you got. I’ll chalk it up to it being an event. I would think that you’d need to bring a crowd with you at any other time of the year to keep things interesting. It’s worth going out there for a beer and to grab some photos, and it definitely needs to be on your Oktoberfest list. Just make sure to Uber there because parking is tough during events.

The architecture is absolutely amazing! It makes one feel like you could be walking around Bavaria in Germany. The beautiful architecture is on the outside and the inside. Now, having said that, that’s where the good review stops – period. We arrived before 5p on a Saturday night and the staff and establishment was simply not ready to operate and visibly in chaos. As we referenced the website, to double check what we were getting into, it was not clear if it was a restaurant, bar or rental venue. Therefore, upon asking the staff minutes after opening what it was we were told it was a restaurant with no table service; translation, a bar where you can order food. With the amazing German architecture one would think they would play German beer garden music, nope, they played modern music – it was an atmosphere killer. Also when other guests had walked in and asked for a menu the staff (of one person) literally couldn’t locate it and this was about 10 minutes after opening. It was very clear the establishment was not ready for a Saturday night (and they are only open Friday, Saturday and Sunday). When a guest has to nearly beg for a menu it greatly reduces ones faith in the ability of those running and operating the establishment to live up to anything they advertise. You are encouraged to visit this place for photographs on the outside and inside otherwise spend your money elsewhere, their chaotic business operation is not worthy of your money.

Food was great, beer garden is not air conditioned nor are the bathrooms available on the patio which is where you will eat unless you reserved space inside or bad weather. Though it doesn’t bother me much I figured I’d say it for our older folks in case they wanted to patron this place, it’s not written on their website and honestly their website is lackluster in terms of the menu or people not looking to book parties in terms of information available. I have also uploaded high res images of the current menu since others decided to photograph it with a potato.

Cool venue with lots of events. If you’re headed to brunch get the bottomless mimosas. The brunch menu isn’t huge but the food has been reliably good on my last several visits. When the outdoor beer garden is open get there early for a seat under the tent. Staff is super cool and accommodating.

Fun place. It’s been a very long time since I visted. The food is good. The staff was very friendly and diverse, and I enjoyed the whole vibe on a rainy Sunday afternoon. Live music, brunch, and bottlomless mimosas. Very reasonably priced as well!

Das Bevo was the absolute perfect place for my wedding, especially since I chose to do a brunch and end the day earlier than most weddings. Being able to get ready and have my ceremony and reception all in the same place was wonderful. Brendon was a delight to work with throughout the planning process and was quick to respond when I had questions. When showing us around the venue he made sure to point out the best spots to pose for photos. He was especially helpful in making sure the bridal party knew what we were doing during rehearsal. No odd-angled arm photos for us! The beauty of the architecture speaks for itself and made it much easier in terms of decorating. There was a snafu with incorrect linens being delivered but Brendon saved the day with a quick run to Majorette for similar tablecloths and everything looked perfect. Throughout our day, Brenden and the rest of the staff was wonderful and prompt to addressing anything we needed all the way down to helping us load up our cars at the end of the day. The brunch buffet was delicious— we received so many compliments that our wedding was the best people had ever attended thanks to a great combination of timing, venue and food!
