Just moved to the neighborhood and so glad to have a great Mexican restaurant! Family owned and great cozy atmosphere. Food was excellent and a great portion for the price. The house margarita and salsa were the best part! Will definitely be coming back.

Wonderful restaurant with great service. There are so many delicious dishes on the menu. My go to is the chicken mexicana. My boyfriend has tried about 10 items and has enjoyed them all. Large portions and a wonderful casual atmosphere. It feels like a California sit down Mexican restaurant.

This place has a amazingly friendly staff, the decor is wonderful and provides artistic and cultured comfortability. Food is well priced, large portioned, and delicious. If in the area would definitely recommend if your looking to sit and eat some great food out of the rain this is a amazing option. ( Also when I got the combo plate there are chips places to separate my tacos from the beans so they would not get soggy. This is a insane lvl of care for the customer).

I’m originally from south Texas and this place reminds me of home. Very unpretentious and low key, with a vast menu of Mexican faves. The location is far enough outside of Capitol Hill that it seems like only locals venture here. The refried beans were especially tasty, which was a nice surprise, because I am used to eating bland beans at many Mexican restaurants. Looking forward to returning.

Came on a weekend. We had no expectations going in, but El Gallito turned out to be a charming place: low-key but good quality. Our server was fast and attentive, the food was fresh and good portioned. And the salsa! Excellent quality. Definitely a place on my list to return to in the near future.

This is hands down the best Mexican restaurant in Seattle. It’s both family owned and multi-generational and the food is delicious and I’m told that it’s authentic. They are always generous with the chips and salsa and they include them with the take out items, don’t forget to order the guacamole, you can thank me later. I’ve been going there for over 20 years and even way back then the friend who recommended said that the food was awesome. I recommend the picadillo and their chile rellenos are also delicious.

Everywhere I have ever lived I try to find a favorite Mexican place. This one is it for Seattle. Granted, I’ve been here only a little over half a year, and this place gets an immediate boost by being close to where I live. But it is truly wonderful, fulfilling pretty much every criterion I have for my favorite kind of Mexican food restaurant: delicious food, cheap prices, and reliably good (and again, cheap) margaritas. The chips are real, the salsa doesn’t come from a jar, and I’ve never had a bad meal here. Note, this is NOT fancy food. My partner described it as “comfort food.” I’ve had a lot of Mexican food in my life, in my home and across several states, and there are a lot of different kinds. Some come from specific regions of Mexico. Some are more faithful to a style which was developed in Mexico before the Spanish or before it evolved in the U.S. El Gallito is standard Mexican-American food. And it’s great. Sure, it won’t be everyone’s favorite. If you like your Mexican food hipsterishly esoteric, healthified beyond recognition as Mexican food, or you have a lot of dietary restrictions, you cannot eat here. You won’t care for it. But if you want delicious, genuine, unpretentious Mexican food in a nice atmosphere with friendly staff and possibly the cheapest margaritas you can find this close to Capitol Hill, give it a try.
