I still remember my friend Melissa getting me my first sandwich from Staggering Ox in Missoula a long time ago. We don’t have Staggering Ox in Missoul anymore, so it was great to have a fresh sandwich again. They also have Barq’s Rootbear on tap there. Lots of room for lots of people to dine in also.

Staggering Ox is a unique and consistently delicious place to eat in Helena. I like to stop by almost every time I’m back home visiting. They specialize is hollow tube-like sandwiches, filled with so many mouth-watering filling and sauce options. There’s always a lot of art up in the space, tons of seating and parking, and good service.

I’m not a sandwich gal, but if you are you’ll love this place! I usually always get one thing and it’s always great so that is always a plus. I’ve never had bad service here another great thing, is their ranch!! And actually I loveee the bread guts! Spicy jalapeno is the best in my opinion. Anyway the one thing about this place and it is allllll personal, is that it just gives me heebie jeebies! It’s not cleanliness or anything like that. It’s the stage of cutouts, the vast emptiness, the only light coming from the front of the store, the isolating walk to the bathroom. If you want to spread out you definitely can do that in this restaurant. The art is great, I just feel like this storefront could be better situated in a better store front.

Unfortunately I echo the common sentiment that this place has been going downhill for years, rapidly the last five or six. The food is still pretty good, but special orders like “no onion” are overlooked three out of five times. (that’s an actual figure of ordering potato of the sea, no onion, to go, in roughly six months) The staff dgaf most of the time, wait times for food are way up, and they never answer the phone. Also, wish you could still get the dressing IN the sandwich. But 8 year old me with a Plain Jane and a stack of bread guts gives this place five stars!

Please be more willing to check allergy ingredients for customers … I’m sorry I can’t digest all of every kind of food and I need help ordering … I was made to get out of line and wait for all other customers to go first before ingredients could be checked.
