Started coming here when I was pregnant with my first child, craved Italian beefs with hot pepper’s. She’s 33 now! This place is still the same, like stepping back in time, brings back so many great memories!

Portillo’s has a great vegetarian hotdog called the garden dog, and it comes with a bunch of great toppings. I also got a small fries, and a drink. The booths are big, the music is fun, and there’s a great crowd with lots of rambunctious kids. It’s like a throwback to the ’50’s. It’s like dining on the set of Happy Days. The food was delicious and filled me up. The service and atmosphere cheered me up.

I grea up in the Chicago area and Portillo’s is a family tradition to us. My boyfriend (now husband) totalled my parents’ new car during his first visit to meet them!!!! What we remember most is that my Dad was so glad we weren’t hurt, that he had no concern for the car. The first thing Dad did was to take us to Portillo’s for an Italian beef sandwich. Ever since, there will always be one or two stops at Portillo’s during a visit to Chicago! We also order the Italian Beef kits for birthdays and holidays 🙂 Happy eating!

Can’t go wrong coming here, there is something for everyone! Amazing 50s atmosphere making you feel welcomed. Friendly staff and a nice size menu. Definitely my favorite spot to stop at when passing through. Must try the combo sanwich and spicy chicken sanwich. Onion rings are great and of course the Chicago dog! They sell the beef by the pound and the jar of peppers. Everyone will be full and happy after a visit here!

The Retro theme is cool, but it looks like it could get a refresh of maintenance/remodeling. The ordering procedure can be frustrating as the staff is running multiple roles along with language barrier challenges. All in all the food was good as you would expect from portillo’s.
