Living in Texas, it’s hard finding great BBQ anywhere else. The food at JKQ was good but could have used a little more seasoning and smoke. The sausage was good, however the brisket, lamb, and chicken were not as good as I’m used to. The baked beans were great and some of the best that I have tasted. The customer service was phenomenal and made the experience better. At the end of our lunch, my wife ordered the peanut butter cake and it was one of the best cakes that I’ve ever tasted.

Everything was great including the service. The pig wings are incredible! The brisket was smoky, moist, and tender. The burger was great too. Not pictured is the chocolate cake dessert we had that was also very good.

When you walk in, you can smell the smoked meat. Immediately making me hungry. Small town restaurant atmosphere. The wait staff was a little understaffed. The food was good. The smokehouse burger was almost too big to get in my mouth, lol. The staff was friendly. It was definitely worth stopping by and grabbing a bite.

Walked in and were immediately seated. Our server was the only person working the floor when we went last Thursday, and honestly, her customer service was fantastic.

My husband and I met our friends in Central City the other day for an early dinner. They raved about a BBQ place they’d been before, so we drove down the road to the restaurant in Black Hawk. I didn’t know until we arrived that it’s located inside of Crook’s Palace, a place I’d known about ever since I was a young girl. I was very happy to find they’re still using this great old building. We walked in the side entrance to the restaurant after finding a space in a small parking lot adjacent to the building. We all ordered drinks, and while waiting for our food, my friend and I walked around and enjoyed all the antiquated photos on the walls. My husband and I ordered the brisket/pulled pork sandwiches with fries, and our friends each ordered different plates. The food and drinks were brought to the table quickly. Our sammies were wonderfully delicious and piled high with both beef and pork, and the fries were great. One of the two BBQ sauces seemed a little thin but was good; the thicker sauce was hot and spicy. Our waitress was a hoot and a half and very attentive to our needs. We received “gold” star service in a place that was once known as the richest square mile on earth! Kudos to keeping the past alive with all the neat photos and the restoration of Crook’s Palace! May God bless y’all!

Super friendly service! Delicious food, appropriate portions, lovely building with history that’s clean and well maintained. They didn’t have the ingredients for what I ordered but subbed ones for another to make up for it. Very good.

SUPER cool place! The staff is very friendly and the food was pretty dang good, which I want sure about getting bbq up in the mountains of Colorado but I was impressed. The best part of this place though is the atmosphere. Very old west feeling without being cheesy or forced like *themed* places. This is apparently the oldest salon in Colorado, founded in 1862 and it really feels like it but it’s been well taken care of and didn’t feel run down. Beautiful place and I WILL be back

One of my favorite BBQ restaurants in all of Colorado. It’s a true labor of love for the owners and it shows. Wonderful and amazing atmosphere in the old Crooks Palace, excellent food and divine desserts. You won’t be disappointed.
