Off the Grid is a cafe, market and farm with outdoor seating on the Thornton River. We serve hand-made dishes for breakfast and lunch, some ingredients sourced from our farm or locally. Meats are always local and pasture-raised, eggs from our own hens or local pastures. Lots of vegetarian & vegan fare, as well as gluten-free options. Delicious cocktails, regional wine, beer on tap (growlers to go), and full espresso menu and house-made sodas!
An eco-store is onsite with a selection of eco-friendly, fair trade or local products. Our operation is powered by a large solar array, we provide free electric car charging, compost onsite and use natural farming practices. Just 5 miles east of the Thornton River Gap entrance to Blue Ridge Parkway!

We discovered this restaurant while exploring Sperryville. We loved it! The staff were so kind, answered all of our questions, and were very helpful! I’m Vegetarian, two others are Vegan, and one eats meat. Happily a lot of the items were Vegan, which worked for us all! The food was absolutely delicious! The Pad Thai was great, according to my mother in law. Mine was fabulous but I can’t remember the name of it! Sitting outside by the creek was perfect! We all enjoyed our meals, the ambiance and the staff. We will be returning!

My group stopped in while en route back to Northern VA from Shenandoah. I actually liked this place. The food was good. The house made bagel was phenomenal. The pancakes were great. The shrimp bahn mi was good, it just lacked flavor. Overall, my group was pleased with the food. It was fresh. I like that it was locally sourced. The restaurant was quaint and charming.

Very nice cafe. They have a great menu. Order and pay at the counter after you find a seat. Had an excellent chicken sandwich on a ciabatta roll. My guest had smoked salmon on a ciabatta as well.

Hidden gem! What a great place to have top-tier food right after the camp. Really enjoyed the backyard with a stream, and their coffee was one of the best I’ve had. 10/10 would recommend.

We stopped here to charge my car and for a bite just before the kitchen closed. The staff were so kind. The Panang curry was absolutely divine! I appreciated the all vegetarian menu, the hot sauce station, and good beer selection. Cute place, family friendly, a nice find for this area- we will definitely be back!

Delicious food! Incredible find, right as you exit Shenandoah. Very cool shop inside too. And they have an electric car charger! Definitely worth a stop, much better than the food served at the Shenandoah lodges so we were very happy to find off the grid. We will be back!

I’ve come here after hiking a few times. This place is super cute. The chicken sandwich is delicious. And the lavender iced tea was so good! If you eat outside you’ll be next to a steam that makes it peaceful.

The cafe is super cute and touristy, service not the best. We went here for brunch on our way to new jersey. Taking off a star coz the food wasn’t that great. Another star coz I didn’t get the veggie sausage that I asked for and was included in my breakfast plate. I asked the server for it even when he brought it out and he said he will get it but never did. House coffee smelled burnt and old ♀️ Really wanted to like the food but what can you do.
