I’ve been looking forward to trying this restaurant for months. I was in disbelief with how disappointing the food was. I love Brussels sprouts from restaurants but these were terrible in flavor and extremely salty. Bao buns are my favorite thing to eat on the planet and these were the worst I’ve ever had. I felt I needed to get another dish that would redeem the evening, so I got the recommended Hamachi crispy rice. Salty yet still bland. I could go to a cheep sushi bar next to my house and had a much more enjoyable dinner. As soon as we got home my date went straight to the pantry to find something else to eat. The service and ambiance are amazing, but the food has to improve. The cocktails were also delicious.

Service was fantastic. Nice atmosphere, but the tables are a bit close together so it’s easy to hear others conversations.

This was an amazing meal. It’s probably 4.5 stars but since that’s not an option, we’re bumping it up to 5. The ambience is spectacular. The service was almost perfect. The food was immaculate with the exception of the hamachi crispy rice, which was a little too fishy for us. They also forgot our Peking duck, but we were pretty full anyway so it wasn’t a big deal. It’s pricey, but sometimes you get what you pay for. The sticky ribs, mushroom tempura, and king crab were all to die for.

Would be 5 stars if it was priced a little more reasonably. I can’t begrudge them too much as the service is absolutely outstanding and they’ve created a great atmosphere. However, the food still feels a tad overpriced for what it is. Also, there are several dishes where they try to get a little too fancy and it doesn’t improve the dish (though it makes for good presentation).

The price wasn’t worth it for the amount of food we get. We keep ordering more food and we were still hungry lol. The servers were really attentive and nice. They always make sure our water is filled. The sushi were okay (not the best I had). They gave us free mochi dessert for our anniversary gift.

The atmosphere and staff are first class. The food is either WOW or Meh. The drinks are delicious and picture perfect.

The atmosphere at Janken is amazing, but unfortunately, the pricing is not. I can get behind higher priced items due to quality and accessibility, but for the portion sizes you receive it’s a bit much. I’ve gone now for dinner and the happy hour, and found that the pricing makes this an out-of-reach dining option for me. The happy hour total came out to $110 for two drinks, 3 of the dishes and a dessert. Dinner was easily $250 for two people. I enjoyed the food, the service was very attentive, and the cocktails were enjoyable, but this is not exactly the most accessible dinner experience. Might be good for a special occasion, but there are so many great places to eat in Portland for less than $100 a person that I’d rather spend my time and money somewhere else.

Every singe experience at Janken has been beyond our expectations. The restaurant is beautiful, but most importantly the food is exquisite; always colorful and delicious. There is something for EVERYONE from small sharing dishes like the crispy Brussels sprouts and the kanpachi crudo to the colossal caviar and famous seafood platter. You cannot miss the miso black cod or the steak tartare, their sushi is fresh and delicious. The ribeye and the Peking duck are memorable, most dishes come with little accoutrements to enhance the flavor of the proteins. The cocktails are fun and delicious as well, highly recommend the Seoul and the Pineapple Express; ask about their premium sake selection, it’s truly delightful. Service is always impeccable and friendly.

Just wrapped up an unforgettably delicious meal at Janken. The interior design and decorations give off an upscale vibe, with a luxurious cherry blossom tree as the focal point. Dishes made with exquisitely fresh ingredients were well harmonized to produce a result greater than its sum. Special shout-out to the porterhouse steak with table-side grated truffle and the kimchi onion, I’ve never had something taste so delectable I wasn’t willing to part with the aftertaste.

Janken is a new favorite spot. Everything on the menu is fantastic! Some stand outs are the sticky ribs, caviar, kimchi fried rice, duck, miso cod, and the bingsu dessert! Also amazing cocktails!!! Service is the best you’re gonna find in any Portland restaurant.
