The service in this spot is fantastic! It’s a bit of a small shop but it’s efficient and busting with flavor. I enjoyed this place so much from first entering. They do offer carryout and dine in, just know that the dining area is a little small inside but there’s also a few tables outside if that’s your style.

Excellent! So excellent! The food is beautiful, delicious and plenty. Customer service is personal. My 13 y/o son declared it his new favorite restaurant. The owners are hardworking, professional and a credit to the Aloha culture. A gem in the heart of Colorado Springs. ❤️

The food is AWESOME. If you like the true tastes of Hawaii this is where it’s at. While we were eating Mama D (Owner) took the time to come ask us how everything was. She has a real passion and love for the food she serves. It is a family business and they make you feel like you are a welcome new member. My wife and I can’t wait to go back again; even tho we live in the NE side of town, it is well worth the drive.

This was our first time eating at Roots Cafe. We were led to try this restaurant out by Hafa Adai Fiesta’s review of their food. This cozy little spot did not disappoint! The service was amazing and filled with that Aloha Spirit My husband ordered the Portuguese Sausage plate but instead of white rice he asked if they could make him spam fried rice and of course they accommodated his meal was packed full of that aloha flavor! Chefs kiss I ordered the combo plate with garlic fried shrimp and short ribs, delicious! The shrimp was perfectly cooked with a crispy outer shell, I confess I ate the whole shrimp to include tail and shell! If you know you know! chefs kiss and of course you always have to try spam musubi, delicious as well! we will definitely be returning!

The old El Taco Rey place is the new home to Roots Cafe, a Hawaiian spot full of great people and delicious food. All traditional and authentic Roots offers a wide variety of cuisine ranging from Loco Moco to my new favorite, the garlic shrimp. On this visit, i had the Portuguese Sausage, Garlic Shrimp, and Teriyaki Chicken with rice and the creamiest mac salad I’ve ever tasted, yes i ordered 2 different plates. The egg was done over easy and went well with the heat of the sausage. The garlic shrimp plate with the chicken worked as a nice combo, although next time, i will order the ribs and chicken combo and just the shrimp as an stand alone entree. Of course, dessert is always a fun ending to a great meal, and this time around, i chose the highly addicting Butter Mochi cake, not overtly sweet but very delicious.

Da Ono Grindz! If you haven’t been by to see Mama D at Roots Cafe you’re missing out! The food was outstanding: our party had kalua pork, katsu chicken, garlic shrimp, today’s special of Portuguese sausage, mixed veggies, kimchi, rice and Mac salad! Totally enjoyed the conversation with Mama D and sharing sunset photos from Oahu. Mahalo Sis! See you the next time we’re in town!

I read a couple reviews complaining of high prices for the portion size before eating at roots cafe.. I would have to differ those reviews opinions. The price was very average for today’s economy and I would consider that reasonable. The portions were not massive but way far from skimpy. We had katsu, teriyaki and musubi. We all left very satisfied and content with the food quality. Only reason for not giving 5 is the teriyaki plate. It was a great dish but in my case the chicken was cut a bit small wich allowed for a small bit of overcookibg on a few bits. Our experience overall was great and we will be back to try the pork on our next visit!

Awesome Hawaiian food! I got the “combo plate” with mochiko chicken (fried chicken with their house sauce) and the garlic shrimp. Plate comes with rice and macaroni salad standard. They have a smaller plate option and some other appetizer/starter/side options I definitely want to try on my next visit. The small welcoming location has 3 picnic tables and a similar amount of in door seating.

So yummy! The chicken katsu is my favorite but I also love the kalbi ribs!!! Their banana bread was so moist and delicious! Everyone was friendly as well. I got the katsu and kalbi. Their Mac salad is also really good.

Just ate at Root’s Cafe and I must say, this was one of the best meals I’ve ever had in my life! I’ve been to the Big Island and this food was honestly even better than anything I had there! ServIce is so friendly too, they are very sweet people. I’m kicking myself I only just discovered this place!
