St. James is one of the best Mediterranean food in DC. I came across the best dc restaurants in Dc and found St. James, for sure it didn’t disappointed me over all. First, The ambiance is so nice with Afro beats music and chill vibe. Second, service was great as we get welcome by the host and we got a table immediately by the window and our server Bree take a good care of us. Third, they have nice drink menu that’s we like very much. Fourth, the interior design is so nice and has a look of mix with some vintage look which is cool. Lastly I found of that the restaurant is owned by the same people own cane on NE DC, which is cool. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to try healthy food.

I am always skeptical when going to a fusion restaurant. However this time I wasn’t disappointed. All of the food was delicious! The flavors were well developed and very reminiscent of eating a Sunday Dinner at my Trinidadian Best Friend’s house. I can’t wait to go back again! There are a few more dishes we want to try. This place was worth the trip from Baltimore

My cocktail was exceptional but the food I had was just ok. Seems like you’re mostly paying for atmosphere which is fine given the area. I had the oxtail with a side of plantain and the rum cake. None of the food I had felt worth the price. I wouldn’t be opposed to coming back to try another dish, but I’m not in any rush. Service was fine, be aware that they’re not kidding about the 90 minute time limit for tables.

From popular Cane on H Street NE comes another modern Caribbean restaurant- St James- on 14th Street NW. Dimly lit with a lit green bar and a spacious dining room (and loft area), dining at St James for two was a great experience from start to finish. Here’s why.

I booked this spot for my husband and I for a date night. Iam glad I chose this spot it is super cute when you walk in. Hove that they have two tier. The service was excellent when we walk-in. We were greeted and seated right away. The servers were attentive. We both ordered a drink which was yummy and appetizers and entreé. I was to full to order dessert. But I would like to try out their menu in the future. The food was excellent and love that the restaurant included food from most of the Caribbean island they even had Haitian black rice and it was excellent. Everything was tasty and delicious!

Delicious! I am personally not a spicy food lover so I appreciate that other than the jerk wings and spicy aioli (yum!) the entrees we ordered were flavorful without the high mouth burning heat. The brisket was smoky and so tender you could cut it with a fork. The whole fried snapper was elegantly plated and cooked to perfection. Jack, our server, was great and made the best recommendations. Kimora, Dee, and Michelle rounded out the outstanding service with big smiles and fast service. Make a reservation if possible. They have a small walk-in section and bar seating all first come first serve. We got there as they were opening and it was a rainy day so we lucked out to be seated right away. My husband and I really enjoyed the food and the ambiance. We will be back to try more!

When setting a reservation, I put in a special request for a birthday celebration, but the restaurant did nothing to acknowledge the birthday. I was very disappointed in this. The earliest reservation they had was 9pm, so I expected the restaurant to be busy. When we arrived, there was plenty of open tables and only one person at the bar.

St. James has lovely decor, lighting, and presentation. We tried an assortment of small dishes: macaroni pie, pork pow, aloo and channa pies, jerk wings. Everything was so tasty and quite spicy! The large dishes we tried were the platter, crab and dumplings, brisket, and the trini-chinese chicken. The platter was a hit. The brisket needed more sauce as it was a little dry. The chicken was tasty, however the spice level was a bit much for someone at our table and couldn’t be eaten. The crab and dumplings were ok, but it felt was missing something for the price. It was very little sauce, like 5 dumplings the size of a quarter, and some crab meat. Desserts were good. The drinks were inconsistent and took very long to be made, which I expect when the margaritas are $16. I had two of the same margarita, it didn’t taste the same both times, one was much sweeter. Service was a bit slow and inattentive despite it being a Tuesday night. The server kept leaving our table before we finished speaking, leaving us to wait for their return. Someone at our table felt that they didn’t seem happy to be there. Ultimately, the service charge. 20% Is added to all checks which I love, what I didn’t appreciate was that the server did not mention this. It is more respectable when servers let the table know of the service charge. I can see how that can be confusing for other guests. Overall, the service and consistency of quality affected the experience.

I am going to stick with the sister restaurant Cane. Although the service and atmosphere meet my expectations, the food doesn’t compare. The appetizers were good but the red snapper was under seasoned and over cooked. The fish was fried so hard we couldn’t pull it away from the bone. The manager was very attentive and accommodating but I was completely disappointed.

This woman owned, blacked owned restaurant is a gem! My husband and I had dinner reservations for 5:30PM. We were promptly greeted and seated upon arrival. The ambiance is excellent for date night or dinner with a friend. The low reggae music playing in the background pairs well with the delicious Trinidadian and other island inspired dishes. Drinks are professionally made and the overall service is outstanding!
